Yes, bandicoots are real animals and yes, we know that Crash is walking and talking. But we included him anyway! Because he's just a great dude and probably the most successful bandicoot of all time. Congrats! | © Activision
We had a couple of dogs, now let's go to THE animal companion: the horse. Our first pick is Agro from the legendary Shadow of the Colossus. He is literally the only companion you have in this game, not just carrying you through the barren wasteland, but filling it with a glimpse of life. It gets lonely out there, you know... | © Sony
Talking about horses in video games, you, of course, have to give a shoutout to Epona. The OG gaming horse is in multiple Zelda games and is just the best. And what a beauty she always is. © Nintendo
Our favorite horse is the new kid on the block though, Torrent from Elden Ring. Of course, it is a magical fantasy being, but it's quite clearly a horse. And the best one ever, obviously. It can double jump! Nuff said. | © Bandai Namco
Continuing with controversial entries, we have our old friend Trico here. Even more of a fantasy beast than Torrent, it is very clearly coded as a sort of cat... thing. It counts! And I love my big dumb cat thing so much. Not just one of the best animals ever, but also one of my favorite companions in any game. | © Sony
Enough fantasy bullshit. Here's a good ol' goose. And what a goose. If you haven't played the incredible Untitled Goose Game, let me promise you that this honking bad boy is an absolute threat. But also: so cute! Definitely one of the best animals ever, ez. | © Panic
The youngest member in this list absolutely deserves its spot. While Stray has only been out for a short while, we are absolutely convinced that the protagonist cat is one of the best animals we have ever seen in any game. | © Annapurna
