Modern Warfare 2 is getting another Multiplayer Free Access event. We have all the dates and tell you how to play the MW2 multiplayer for free.
As we all know, Warzone 1 and Warzone 2 are free to play, so you don't have to pay anything to be able to play the game. However, there is always a premium Call of Duty title as well, which is full price. So if you don't like Battle Royale but want to play regular CoD multiplayer or the campaign, you actually have to buy the game.
To convince even more gamers to buy the current premium title, which right now is Modern Warfare 2, Call of Duty has so-called Free Access or Free Trial periods from time to time. During a Free Access period, players can download and play the multiplayer for free and afterward decide if they want to buy the game.
Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Free Access
Season 2 Reloaded will start on March 15 and will befollowed by a MWII Multiplayer Free Trial from March 16 at 10 am PT through March 20 at 10 am PT. This has been officially confirmed by this Activision blog post:

This will give players five days to test out MWII multiplayer and at the same time take advantage of the Double XP event that is taking place at the same time. So even if you don't intend to buy Modern Warfare 2, you could at least use the Free Trial to quickly level up some guns, like the new Tempus Torrent.
MW2 Free Access Content
The MW2 Multiplayer Free Access includes a variety of maps and modes, including the Co-Op Raid. All in all, players of the free trial version will be able to play on six multiplayer maps and test out eight different game modes as well as the first Raid:
The six available multiplayer maps are:
- Farm 18
- Mercado Las Almas
- Shipment
- Dome
- Himmelmatt Expo (new Season 2 Reloaded map)
- Santa Sena (Battle Map)
The available game modes are:
- Team Deathmatch
- Hardpoint
- Domination
- Kill Confirmed
- Gun Game
- Infected
- One in the Chamber
- All or Nothing
So basically, the free access version gives you access to the current playlist and a bunch of brand-new game modes and the new map that was just introduced with Season 2 Reloaded. If you want to play the campaign or the new Raid 02, however, you have to buy the full game.
How To Play Modern Warfare 2 Free Access
To play the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer for free, all you have to do is find the game in your platform's store and download it.
Here is how to do it:
- Got to your platform's store (PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Battle.net)
- Search for "Modern Warfare Free Access" or the "Play Free" button on PC
- You should then be able to download a free trial version of Modern Warfare 2
