12 Open Worlds You’d Actually Want to Live In

1-12

Crimson desert

12. Crimson Desert

| © Pearl Abyss

Horizon

11. Horizon Zero Dawn (2017)

Pywel is at its best when you slow down. Away from the combat, there is a simple peace in watching the morning fog lift from the plains or seeing the sun set over the mountains. The world is full of cozy corners, including mossy ruins, silent forests, and still rivers. Pywel’s greatest appeal isn't the next fight, but the calm moments in between. | © Pearl Abyss

Red Dead Redemption 2

10. Red Dead Redemption 2 (2018)

Red Dead Redemption 2 shines when you step off the main path and just exist in its world. It’s in the steady sound of hooves on a dirt trail, mist rising off a lake in the mountains, or a storm rolling across the plains. The world doesn't rush you; it invites you to clear a camp, sit under the stars, and listen to the wind in the trees. | © Rockstar Games

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 1

9. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II (2025)

This medieval world has a grounded, realistic charm. Walking through the Trosky valleys at sunrise, with dew on the grass and birds singing, is a wonderful experience. The slow pace of travel lets you appreciate simple details like a forest clearing, a running creek, or the candlelight of a village church. | © Warhorse Studios

Cropped Assassins Creed Origins

8. Assassin’s Creed Origins (2017)

Ancient Egypt is full of breathtaking, atmospheric spaces. The best moments are often the simplest: sailing a small boat down the Nile at sunset, watching the light hit the pyramids, or stepping into the cool shade of an old tomb. This is a game that invites you to stop and take it in. | © Ubisoft Montreal

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Blood and Wine

7. The Witcher 3

Though Geralt’s work is grim, his world is often incredibly scenic. Riding through the windswept cliffs of Skellige while the local music plays offers some of the most relaxing moments in gaming. Whether you’re traveling through the sunlit fields of Velen or watching the sun set over Novigrad's harbor, the atmosphere offers a peaceful break from hunting monsters. | © CD Projekt Red

Minecraft

6. Minecraft (2011)

Minecraft is built for peaceful, self-guided exploration. There is a simple satisfaction in finding a quiet valley, watching a blocky sunrise over the water, and listening to the soft music swell as you build. It’s a massive, quiet landscape of caves and snow-capped hills where you set your own pace. | © Mojang Studios

No Mans Sky

5. No Man’s Sky (2016)

Space is empty, but that vastness brings a deep sense of solitude. Landing on an untouched planet, stepping out of your ship, and watching a ringed planet rise over a colorful alien horizon is a quiet, impressive moment. These worlds offer a simple calm, letting you watch strange wildlife under alien suns at your own leisure. | © Hello Games

Breath of the wild

4. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (2017)

Hyrule is designed for wandering. With no screen clutter or heavy quest markers, the game lets you focus on the wind in the grass and the piano notes playing in the background. Gliding off a peak over green meadows, resting by a forest pond, or watching a storm clear are the moments that define the game. | © Nintendo EPD

Hogwarts Legacy Pre Order

3. Hogwarts Legacy (2023)

The world of Hogwarts Legacy is full of cozy, familiar spaces. There is a simple comfort in finding a corner of the library while rain taps on the glass, or flying a broom over the Scottish Highlands. Maybe the best cozy-game ever made. | © Avalanche Software

Far cry 6 is beautiful v0 u3nb3gwjql191

2. Far Cry 6 (2021)

Yara is a beautiful Caribbean island when you step away from the fighting. Waves hitting empty sand beaches, the sound of the jungle at dusk, and quiet waterfalls in the mountains; this is a honeymoon destination if ever there was one. | © Ubisoft Toronto

Skyrim

1. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (2011)

For over a decade, players have treated Skyrim as a virtual home. Whether you are listening to the rivers in the Rift, picking flowers in the tundra, or sitting by a tavern hearth, this world remains one of the best in gaming to simply relax. | © Bethesda Game Studios
