The cast has been announced. Meet the new Carrie.
Prime Video is working on a new Carrie series based on Stephen King’s 1974 novel. The eight–episode project is being developed by Mike Flanagan, who has previously adapted several horror stories for TV, such as The Haunting of Bly Manor, The Haunting of Hill House and The Fall of the House of Usher.
The Cast
Summer H. Howell has been cast as Carrie White, a teenager with telekinetic powers who is bullied at school and controlled at home by her religious mother. Howell has appeared in horror films before, including Curse of Chucky. Samantha Sloyan plays Margaret White, Carrie’s abusive and deeply religious mother. She has worked with Mike Flanagan on past projects and tends to play intense, emotionally complex characters.
Siena Agudong takes on the role of Sue Snell, one of Carrie’s classmates who starts to question her role in the bullying. Alison Thornton will play Chris Hargensen, who leads the attack against Carrie. Other cast members include Josie Totah, Amber Midthunder, Arthur Conti, Joel Oulette and Matthew Lillard.
A Different Take On The Horror Classic
Flanagan is known for focusing more on emotional tension than on traditional horror. His shows often deal with grief, isolation and trauma, which means this version of Carrie might go deeper into the psychological aspects of the story than previous adaptations. Rather than focusing only on the famous prom scene and the gore, the series is expected to expand on the characters and their relationships, with more attention to the social dynamics at school and at home.
When Will It Be Released?
Although an exact date has not been announced, the series is set to begin filming this summer in Canada and based on Mike Flanagan’s usual production timelines, we can expect Carrie to release on Prime Video in late 2025 or early 2026.
