What started as a Fourth of July shopping vlog quickly turned into a social media controversy. TikToker Catherine Ebs is facing backlash after posting a video in which she repeatedly described a visit to a local grocery store as a “simulation” after her online order was canceled. Many viewers felt the vlog was horrible and that it seemed dismissive of everyday life for millions of people.

Tone-Deaf Comments Leave Viewers Shocked

According to Catherine, her online grocery order from Sam's Club was canceled three times, forcing her group to shop at a local grocery store during their holiday trip. Throughout the video, she repeatedly called the experience “crazy” and compared it to living in a simulation while commenting on the selection of produce.

She also joked about the small-town setting and acted surprised by the store itself. The clip quickly spread across TikTok, where many viewers argued that the comments made an ordinary grocery store seem beneath her.

Many users took issue with the way the experience was presented, arguing that the video unintentionally mocked the places where millions of people buy their groceries every week. Others described the vlog as one of the most “out of touch” influencer moments of the year.

MoistCr1TiKaL Joins The Discussion

The controversy grew after YouTuber Cr1TiKaL (Charlie White Jr.) reacted to the viral clip. During his commentary, he questioned why a normal grocery store was treated like an extraordinary or frightening place. Throughout the video, he sarcastically compared the shopping trip to entering a dangerous environment and repeatedly argued that nothing shown in the vlog looked unusual. He also questioned why Catherine didn't simply visit a Sam's Club location in person if the online order had been canceled.

By the end of his reaction, Cr1TiKaL described the video as “extremely out of touch,” arguing that it reflected a disconnect from everyday life rather than a genuine inconvenience. Whether viewers saw the vlog as harmless humor or an example of influencer privilege, the discussion quickly spread beyond TikTok and became one of the platform's biggest talking points this week.
