A content creator has apologized after leaving a bathtub on the summit of Pen y Fan, the highest mountain in southern Wales, following a viral challenge.

Influencer Tom Christopher carried the bathtub more than 2,900 feet (around 886 meters)
up the mountain as part of an attempt to set a world record for the highest bathtub ever taken up a peak. The stunt quickly gained attention online, but not for the reason he had hoped.

Rugby Team Removes the Bathtub

After the bathtub was left at the summit, members of Cardiff Rugby Academy carried it back down the mountain. The group believed it had been abandoned, with photos of the cleanup quickly spreading across social media and sparking criticism of Christopher's stunt.

Christopher
later addressed the controversy in a public statement, apologizing for the situation. According to the creator, he never intended to abandon the bathtub permanently. Instead, he claimed the plan had always been to leave it at the summit for around 48 hours before returning to remove it himself.

However, by the time he planned to go back, the rugby players had already completed the cleanup. Christopher thanked them for removing the bathtub safely and admitted he understood why many people were frustrated by the stunt.

Critics Call The Stunt Irresponsible

The incident drew criticism from hikers and conservation groups, many of whom argued that the stunt promoted irresponsible behavior in protected natural areas. Others pointed out that volunteers ultimately had to clean up after a social media challenge that was created purely for online views.

Christopher
has since acknowledged the criticism, saying he understands why people were upset and that he has learned from the incident.

The controversy is just the latest example of influencers facing backlash after public stunts blur the line between entertainment and irresponsible behavior.
