A shocking incident unfolded in Argentina when a flight instructor jumped from the aircraft during a training flight. Leaving his student pilot alone in the plane…

Alone Against Fear

The incident happened near the city of Toledo in Córdoba Province, Argentina. The 42-year-old flight instructor Leandro Andrés Bertazzo was flying a Cessna C-150 with a 22-year-old student pilot. The young woman already held a private pilot license but was completing additional flight hours that required supervision from an instructor.

According to initial reports, the instructor allegedly told his student, “You know what to do,” shortly before the incident. He then reportedly removed his headset, unfastened his seatbelt, and jumped from the aircraft.

For the 22-year-old pilot, the moment turned into a nightmare. Despite the shock, she remained calm, contacted the flight school by radio to report the emergency, and focused on keeping control of the aircraft.

And thank goodness, she successfully landed the plane without harm. Flight school officials praised the young pilot for maintaining control and professionalism during an unimaginable emergency.

Flight School Director Praises “Perfect Landing”

Eduardo Álvarez, director of Flying Parrot Córdoba flight school, said the student pilot was visibly shaken after landing but handled the situation with remarkable professionalism. According to him, she pulled off a “perfect landing.”

After the emergency was reported, Álvarez took off in another aircraft to search for the missing instructor. Around 15 to 20 minutes later, he found Bertazzo’s body in a nearby field. Emergency responders arrived at the scene but were unable to save him.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Because it occurred during a flight, federal authorities in Córdoba are involved in the case. Investigators initially examined whether a mechanical issue could have contributed to the incident. However, reports indicate that they are now investigating the possibility that the instructor intentionally ended his life.

Questions Remain After Tragic Incident

Colleagues described Bertazzo as an experienced pilot and instructor. They said he had completed another training flight earlier that same day, and seemed normal, but his father later told local media that his son had been going through a difficult period and had sought help from a psychiatric clinic.
