SeaWorld Orlando’s dark romance scare zone features masked men, gothic scenery and painted-on abs in an unusual attempt to attract BookTok fans.
SeaWorld has found an unusual addition to its Halloween lineup: men who look like they escaped from the books people avoid reading in public. At its Orlando park, visitors can now encounter masked performers offering roses and brooding against gothic scenery. Some have painted-on abs, because apparently the roller coasters needed competition.
Just One More Chapter is a new scare zone at the park’s 2026 Howl-O-Scream event, inspired by the dark romance fantasies popular on BookTok. As reported by Attractions Magazine, SeaWorld’s description explicitly targets readers whose shelves contain “toxic obsession, masked men, and the most twisted love stories.” That is an impressively specific demographic for a marine theme park.
Your Fictional Boyfriend Works Here Now
The setup involves roses, ivy, gothic stonework, and an oversized open book displaying a chapter titled “The Cathedral.” Performers dressed in black, complete with masks, chains, and leather straps, lean against gates, beckon from windows, and offer guests flowers. Some slide across the pavement with sparks flying, because apparently even approaching someone requires special effects.
It borrows the visual shorthand of the dangerous romantic lead: concealed face, threatening posture, and an apparent reluctance to button a shirt. The actors take it seriously, which is probably essential. Someone has to maintain the atmosphere while visitors contemplate the fact that this is happening at SeaWorld.
A novel has hundreds of pages to make its brooding stranger compelling. Here, the costume and a prolonged stare have to do most of the work. Remove the backstory, the tension, and the reader’s imagination, and you are left with a man posing beside a gate while somebody’s friend films him for TikTok.
A Slight Detour From the Marine Life
The connection to Halloween is understandable. Horror and dark romance both trade in danger, anticipation, and strangers whose intentions should probably concern you. Turning those ingredients into a flirtatious scare zone is a plausible creative decision. Putting it in SeaWorld is what makes the whole thing sound like a joke that survived too many meetings.
For clarity, this belongs to Howl-O-Scream, a separately ticketed nighttime event, rather than the regular daytime park experience. The 2026 season runs on select nights from September 11 through October 31. SeaWorld describes it as intended for mature audiences, although visitors under 18 are allowed to attend.
The wider event includes five haunted houses and six scare zones, with an attraction based on I Know What You Did Last Summer among the more conventional offerings. Visitors can therefore choose between a fisherman trying to kill them and a masked man trying to hold their attention. Only one requires pretending not to notice the painted-on six-pack.
