A pig with a crown, defined by its humanity and heart even beyond death.
When Technoblade’s father uploaded a video titled “so long nerds” to his YouTube channel on June 30, 2022, one of the world’s largest Minecraft communities suddenly became a place of shared mourning. Millions of fans learned that Technoblade, whose real name was Alexander, had died of cancer. He was only 23 years old.
Technoblade was not a typical internet star. He rarely showed his face, gave very few personal insights, and built his career almost entirely through his voice, humor, and gameplay skill.
That is exactly what made him special. In a platform culture where many creators became increasingly personal and loud, Technoblade remained controlled, dry, clever, and unbelievably good at what he did: playing Minecraft.
The Minecraft King With A Talent For Storytelling
He first became known through videos on Hypixel, especially BedWars, SkyWars, PvP content, and later major creator events such as Minecraft Monday and the Dream SMP. Within the Minecraft scene, he quickly came to be regarded as one of the best players of all time.
His rivalry with Dream became one of the community’s most famous duels; in particular, the $100,000 match organized by MrBeast which Technoblade won became one of the defining moments of his career. But Technoblade’s real strength was not only his skill. It was his storytelling. He could turn a simple match into an absurd heroic saga without ever seeming like he was taking himself too seriously.
His humor was dry, sometimes chaotic, but always instantly recognizable. Phrases like “Technoblade never dies” became not just memes, but part of his identity.
Time Moves On
In 2021, Technoblade publicly revealed that he had been diagnosed with cancer. He told his fans that he had noticed pain in his arm and swelling in his shoulder. It was later revealed that he had been diagnosed with metastatic sarcoma.
Despite the diagnosis, his way of handling it impressed many fans: open, but not sentimental; honest, yet still marked by his characteristic humor. During his illness, Technoblade also used his platform for charity work. In September 2021, he raised more than $300,000 for the Sarcoma Foundation of America through a charity livestream. According to the Sarcoma Foundation, Technoblade ultimately helped mobilize over one million dollars in donations for sarcoma research.
After his death, the scale of his influence became even clearer. Fans, creators, streamers, and even official Minecraft channels paid tribute to him. Mojang added an in-game homage to Technoblade in Minecraft: Java Edition, and his name remained present in gaming culture years later.
In 2025, he even received a special tribute in A Minecraft Movie, where a pig wearing a crown and cape appears as a nod to his iconic avatar.
The Community As A Second Family
He showed how powerful an online community can be when it is built not only around content, but also around genuine support. His fans donated, remembered, organized tributes, and kept his message alive. After his passing, a Minecraft channel became a symbol of unity, humor in difficult times, and the strength of digital communities.
Technoblade’s death hit the gaming world so hard because, for many, he was more than a YouTuber. He was a voice that accompanied them through school, the pandemic, difficult periods, and countless late nights. He was not emotionally loud, yet that is exactly what made him feel so close to many. He spoke to his audience as if they were part of a massive inside joke that only his community truly understood.
Today, Technoblade remains one of the most important figures in Minecraft history. Not only because he was exceptionally skilled, but because he proved that a creator does not need a public persona, constant self-promotion, or a polished on-screen identity to reach millions of people.
Technoblade died in 2022. But within his community, one phrase still lives on: “Technoblade never dies.”
