A food creator's snack empire allegedly hid far more than just biscuits.
With more than five million TikTok followers, Lebanese influencer Georges Dib, better known as Dr. Food, built his online fame by reviewing food and promoting his own snack brand. Now, he's making headlines for a very different reason.
A Lebanese court has sentenced the influencer to life in prison with hard labor after finding him guilty in a major drug-smuggling case. Authorities say hashish was hidden inside branded biscuit and cake packaging before being shipped through Turkey to international destinations.
Not Exactly The Secret Ingredient
According to prosecutors, investigators seized around 820 kilograms (1,800 lbs) of hash during the 2024 investigation. The drugs were allegedly packaged inside products carrying the Dr. Food brand, making the operation sound more like an episode of Breaking Bad than a TikTok cooking series.
The court also fined Dib and stripped him of his civil rights. Because he is believed to be living outside Lebanon, the sentence was handed down in absentia. Reports suggest he has remained abroad since an arrest warrant was issued in 2024.
Business As Usual On Social Media
Despite the verdict, Dr. Food's social media channels have stayed surprisingly quiet about the case.
Instead of addressing the life sentence, his Instagram continued promoting giveaways and food-related content. One recent campaign even offered cash prizes to followers who shared promotional videos, while none of his latest posts mentioned the court's decision.
Whether the influencer will respond publicly remains to be seen, but one thing is certain, this is probably the last time anyone will look at a pack of biscuits without wondering what's really inside.
