A GTA 6 fan who hoped to live long enough to play the highly anticipated game has died.
A 25-year-old Grand Theft Auto 6 fan who went viral for sharing his hopes of living long enough to play the latest installment in the long-running franchise has died.
Jerry Fort, who captured the hearts of gaming fans earlier this year, passed away on October 29, following a series of lung infections and worsening health complications.
His family confirmed the news in an update through his TikTok account on November 2, thanking supporters who helped make his final months memorable.
GTA 6 Fan Dies After Years of Battling Lung Disease
Fort had been living with interstitial lung disease since he was 17, according to his mother, Paris Fort. The condition gradually worsened, eventually leaving him in need of a lung transplant to have a chance at recovery.
His story gained widespread attention in August when he shared an update from his hospital bed, explaining his medical situation and expressing his desire to play GTA 6.
According to his family's latest update, Fort developed a severe infection several weeks before his death, causing his lungs to fill with blood. Doctors reportedly warned his loved ones that he might not survive and discussed hospice care as an option.
Fort initially chose to continue treatment, remaining on life support equipment, including extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), which helps support heart and lung function.
However, his condition continued to deteriorate. On October 28, he told his family he was ready to stop fighting. The following morning, another infection developed, his blood work worsened, and his organs began shutting down.
GTA Community Rallied Around Fort
Fort's mother previously launched a GoFundMe campaign to help her son receive a lung transplant. The fundraiser ultimately raised over $100,000, far exceeding its original $15,000 goal. His family expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed, explaining that the support helped make his final months special.
Beyond his dream of playing GTA 6, Fort also hoped to share his music with a wider audience and have more people hear his work. Paris Fort described her son as "bright, hardworking, creative, and deeply caring." His family is now planning a balloon release in his memory, although a date has yet to be announced.
The news comes just weeks before GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026.
