Ranking the beloved Black Ops series

Black ops 4

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Alright, let’s kick things off with the game that, well, didn’t quite hit the mark: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. This one tried to shake things up by ditching the traditional single-player campaign, putting all its chips on multiplayer modes. While the battle royale-style Blackout mode was a fresh addition, not everyone was thrilled about missing out on a solo spy adventure. It had its moments and the action was solid, but for many of us, it felt a bit like showing up to a party where your best friend didn’t show. | © Activision

Black Ops Cold War

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

Moving up the list, we land on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. This entry took us back to the intense espionage and shadowy operations of the 1980s—a real nostalgia trip for the history buffs. With a campaign that felt more connected to the original Black Ops vibes, it definitely scored some points there. The multiplayer was a blast with some cool new modes, and who could forget Zombies? Always a fan favorite. Yet, even with these highlights, it sometimes felt like it was playing catch-up rather than leading the charge and skill based matchmaking, buuuh! Still, a solid game that brought plenty of thrills. | © Activision

Call of Duty Black Ops 3

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

Next on our list is Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. This game cranked up the future-tech, giving players some seriously cool cybernetic upgrades and abilities that made gameplay feel supercharged. The multiplayer was as intense as ever, with wall-running and power jumps adding a new layer of strategy and fun. And let’s not forget the Zombies mode—it was wilder and more elaborate than before, packed with Easter eggs and crazy storylines that had us all hooked. While it was a hit for those who love a high-octane shoot-'em-up, it did divide players a bit with its futuristic setting. But no doubt, it was a game-changer in its own right. | © Activision

Black ops 6

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

Taking an optimistic slot at third place is Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Though it hasn't hit the shelves yet, the early buzz is promising enough to earn a provisional high ranking. The multiplayer promises fresh excitement with 16 new maps and a revamped Prestige system. Not to forget, the beloved Zombies mode makes a comeback with new maps, ensuring that the undead action remains a solid draw. While it's still up in the air how well Black Ops 6 will live up to its potential, the announcements so far have set expectations high, and it's gearing up to possibly exceed them once gamers dive in this October. | © Activision

Call of Duty: Black Ops

The original Call of Duty: Black Ops is a hit for two big reasons: its gripping story and its awesome multiplayer. The campaign takes you deep into Cold War secrets and spy missions, with a great plot twist at the end. Then, the multiplayer keeps you hooked with cool maps and intense matches where you can team up or go solo. This mix of a cool story and fun gameplay is why it's a favorite for so many players. | © Activision

Black ops 2

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Taking the top spot with a bang, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was an absolute game-changer. The multiplayer was maybe the greatest so far, with maps that were chaotic fun. The Zombies mode was a lot of fun, and so many players back then were addicted to it. The maps were full of secrets, and those Easter eggs? Pure gold. And who could forget the hilarious moments with the bus in Tranzit? Missing that bus and having to chase after it while a horde of zombies closed in was both terrifying and comical. The OG Black Ops for most of us Call of Duty Fans. | © Activision

1-6

With Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to revisit the whole series. From epic storylines to adrenaline-pumping multiplayer, each Black Ops game has brought something cool to the table. But hey, not every game can be a total winner. Let’s kick back and check out which games were just okay and which ones totally rocked. Ready to take a trip down memory lane with Black Ops? Let’s roll!
