MSI 2026 delivered a thrilling finale with a worthy champion.
Hanwha Life Esports are the MSI 2026 champions. In a thrilling Grand Final in Daejeon, the Korean champions defeated Bilibili Gaming 3-2 and claimed the organization’s first MSI title. For HLE, it is also the second international title in the club’s history – and a victory that rewrites several major storylines of the year.
Before the final, many signs pointed toward BLG. The Chinese top team had beaten HLE 3-1 in the upper bracket just a few days earlier and entered the series with a chance at a historic season. But when it mattered most, HLE flipped the narrative. Choi “Zeus” Woo-je was named Finals MVP after the series. Especially in the final two games, the top laner was the decisive factor for HLE.
HLE Make a Statement for the LCK
The title is not only historic for Hanwha Life Esports, but also for Korea. The final was already the sixth LCK vs. LPL final in MSI history, but only the second one won by the LCK. After a year in which BLG had long looked like the strongest team in the world, HLE reset the international balance of power.
Moreover, the win also brings a sporting bonus for the rest of the season: HLE directly qualifies for Worlds 2026, as long as the team reaches the LCK playoffs. The MSI title is therefore not just prestige, but also an important step toward the season finale.
For BLG, however, a major dream comes to an end. The Golden Road, meaning the chance to win every split and international tournament in a single year, is over. At the same time, a painful streak continues: after final losses at MSI 2023 against JD Gaming and MSI 2024 against Gen.G, BLG have now also lost the third MSI final in their own history.
Gumayusi Wins His First Major Title Away From T1
Individually, HLE’s triumph is full of meaning as well. Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyung wins his first international title away from T1 and finally begins writing his own legacy without Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. Before the final, Gumayusi said on stage, “I have never lost confidence against BLG, I will definitely win.” In the end, he was right.
For other HLE players, too, the title is a milestone. Kim “Zeka” Geon-woo and Zeus are now among the few players to have won all major modern international League of Legends tournaments. Seo “Kanavi” Jin-hyeok claims his second MSI title after winning the tournament with JD Gaming in 2023 and now wins it with a second organization. He follows Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk, who had previously achieved the same feat.
For Zeus, Gumayusi, Yoo “Delight” Hwan-joong, and Zeka, it is each player’s first MSI title. Particularly remarkable: Zeka wins the tournament in his very first MSI appearance. HLE were already a star roster before the final, but this title now gives the lineup the international confirmation that teams like this need.
A Final Full of Momentum Swings
Game one immediately showed how close this series would be. HLE looked ready at times to close out the game early, but BLG kept finding ways to stay alive. Only after a cleanly prepared Baron play around the 41-minute mark were HLE able to force the decisive advantage. Gumayusi’s Caitlyn became harder and harder to control in the late game, and HLE took a 1-0 lead.
BLG answered in game two. HLE started aggressively and put BLG under early pressure, but they could not turn it into a lead big enough to truly break the game open. Even though Kanavi and Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin were under pressure at times, BLG stayed calm, controlled the objectives, and made the game almost unplayable once they secured Ocean Soul. Peng “Xun” Li-Xun was involved in a large share of the kills and gave BLG exactly the stability they needed after falling behind.
In game three, BLG then took over the momentum. Bin picked up two early kills on Jax, Xun’s Nocturne increased the pressure across the map, and HLE never found a way back. Suddenly, Bilibili Gaming led 2-1, and the series looked like it was starting to tilt toward the Chinese champions.
But HLE did not collapse. In game four, Zeus brought his team back into the series on Swain. HLE secured early advantages, survived a few nervous moments, and found the decisive teamfight around Baron at the 23-minute mark. Even though Park “Viper” Do-hyeon remained dangerous on Mel, HLE controlled the objectives much better this time and tied the series at 2-2.
Game five was tense as a result. Both teams played more carefully, knowing that a single mistake could cost them the title. In the late game, both top laners became massive threats that teamfights had to be played around. The decisive moment once again came around Baron Nashor. HLE found the better fight, broke BLG’s resistance, and closed out the series.

BLG Remains World-Class – But Once Again Without the Title
For Bilibili Gaming, this loss is extremely bitter. BLG had beaten HLE in the upper bracket, stood on the verge of another international title, and had enough individual quality to win the final. But once again, an MSI ends with a final defeat.
For Viper, too, it was a missed opportunity. In his first MSI appearance, he had the chance to further complete his international trophy collection. Instead, BLG remain a team that regularly comes close, but once again fails to take the final step on the biggest stage.
HLE, on the other hand, won a final that was bigger than just an MSI title. It was revenge against BLG, a statement from the LCK, Gumayusi’s first international triumph away from T1, and Zeus’ great MVP moment. Hanwha Life Esports are the MSI 2026 champions – and after performance, it does not feel like an outlier, but like the beginning of a new expectation.
