In the recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo has revealed a new trailer for The Mario Galaxy Movie and more voices for the characters, among others the voice for Yoshi the dinosaur.
The next Super Mario Movie is coming to theaters on April 1. In the most recent Nintendo Direct, Nintendo released brand-new updates and insights into the Mario Galaxy Movie, including the announcement of new cast members.
About the Movie
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is supposed to be the "centerpiece" of the franchise's 40th anniversary, according to the Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto. It is directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who already directed the first Mario movie.
In this new story, Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach have to face a new threat in Bowser Jr. and his father, who is now back to normal size. The friends go on an adventure across galaxies and are joined by newcomers Rosalina and Yoshi. There will reportedly be even more characters from the Super Mario universe that have not yet been revealed.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie actors Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek and Keegan-Michael Key as Toad will return to their roles in the new movie, joined by Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr..
The Announcement
In the recent Nintendo Direct on March 9, Nintendo not only revealed the newest and final trailer for the movie but also more voice actors for major characters.
Besides Luis Guzmán as the villain Wart and Issa Rae as Honey Queen, Chris Meledandri from Illumination announced Yoshi's voice: Donald Glover!
Yoshi has traditionally been voiced by Kazumi Totaka, a musician and composer, who produced the music for dozens of Nintendo games. Although Yoshi has been known to be able to speak, he (like many of the other Mario characters) never was a man (dinosaur?) of many words. Some fans are intrigued by the prospect of Donald Glover, a reported "Nintendo super-fan" letting Yoshi possibly actually talk, while others just hope he doesn't say more than his typical "Yoshi", "Yahoo" and "Mlem". I guess we will have to wait until the movie is out to judge the character choice and Glovers performance.
