*Warlords of Draenor* opens with one of WoW’s sharpest leveling campaigns: an alternate Draenor packed with gorgeous zones, imposing warlords, and excellent raids such as Highmaul, Blackrock Foundry, and Hellfire Citadel. Then everyone goes home—to their Garrison, specifically. The headline feature gradually turned a massively multiplayer world into a collection of private command centers, while mission tables and thin outdoor content left little reason to venture beyond them. A painfully sparse patch cycle exposed how much potential had been abandoned. These are outstanding ingredients trapped inside an expansion Blizzard seemingly stopped cooking halfway through. | © Blizzard Entertainment

Wow shadowlands release verschoben — 10. Shadowlands (2020)

The Warcraft afterlife should have been the ultimate fantasy playground, yet *Shadowlands* somehow made eternity feel suspiciously like administrative work. Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald, and Revendreth looked magnificent, while Castle Nathria delivered a terrific raid and an instantly memorable villain in Sire Denathrius. Unfortunately, Covenants tied character power to a role-playing choice and initially made switching unnecessarily punishing. Torghast also slid from exciting roguelike experiment into compulsory Soul Ash duty. Later updates improved its restrictive systems, but the Jailer’s convoluted master plan and Sylvanas’ divisive storyline left scars that even Zereth Mortis could not heal. | © Blizzard Entertainment

Cataclysm Classic — 9. Cataclysm (2010)

*Cataclysm* did exactly what its name promised to Azeroth—and, less intentionally, to the community surrounding it. Rebuilding the original leveling world was a staggering achievement, with redesigned quests, flying across the old continents, and memorable additions such as the Goblins and Worgen. Its demanding Heroic dungeons and Firelands raid also produced some superb group content. However, the disconnected endgame zones made the expansion feel oddly fragmented, while Dragon Soul gave Deathwing a disappointingly recycled farewell. Transmogrification became an enduring success, but Raid Finder remains considerably more controversial. Blizzard modernized WoW here, although several pieces of its old identity disappeared in the renovation. | © Blizzard Entertainment

Wowbfa — 8. Battle for Azeroth (2018)

*Battle for Azeroth* looks spectacular in screenshots, which may be the safest way to enjoy parts of it. Kul Tiras and Zandalar rank among Blizzard’s finest settings, supported by excellent music, strong dungeons, and inventive raids such as Battle of Dazar’alor. The expansion’s marquee systems were much harder to defend. Azerite Armor could turn an apparent upgrade into a mathematical disappointment, while Island Expeditions and Warfronts quickly became repetitive chores. Essences and Corrupted gear eventually injected some welcome excitement, but also piled more systems onto an already crowded endgame. Best ELVUI Interfaces for World Of Warcraf Dragonflight Patch 10 1 — 7. Dragonflight (2022)

After several expansions obsessed with cosmic catastrophes and borrowed power, *Dragonflight* remembered that simply moving through Azeroth could be fun. Dragonriding transformed flight from passive transportation into an activity worth mastering, while revamped talent trees gave classes meaningful customization again. The profession overhaul, Dracthyr Evokers, and frequent content updates helped restore confidence in WoW’s direction. Its raids supplied memorable confrontations with Raszageth, Sarkareth, and Fyrakk, even if the broader narrative sometimes resembled a lengthy dragon-family therapy session. Not every public event deserved weeks of repetition, but fewer mandatory chores made the Dragon Isles feel like a place to explore rather than another shift at work. | © Blizzard Entertainment

Wowpanda — 6. Mists of Pandaria (2012)

The panda jokes aged far worse than *Mists of Pandaria*. Beneath its initially divisive presentation sat beautiful world-building, remarkably polished class design, and a storyline that gradually transformed Garrosh Hellscream from volatile leader into expansion-ending tyrant. Monks proved enormously fun, while Pet Battles, Scenarios, and Challenge Modes gave players worthwhile pursuits beyond traditional raiding. Throne of Thunder remains an all-time-great raid, and the Isle of Thunder and Timeless Isle showed how compelling outdoor endgame zones could be. Launch-era daily quests were overwhelming, and Siege of Orgrimmar overstayed its welcome, but Pandaria ultimately earned the respect that its announcement trailer did not. | © Blizzard Entertainment

Wow Midnight — 5. Midnight (2026)

*Midnight* finally gives Azeroth the feature players requested for two decades: a home worth decorating, obsessing over, and showing to guildmates who absolutely did not ask for the tour. Player Housing is a superb evergreen addition, while the rebuilt Silvermoon, Ghostlands, and Zul’Aman make returning to Quel’Thalas more exciting than visiting another disconnected continent. Strong dungeons, improved Delves, and an ambitious multi-raid first season keep the endgame healthy. Its hurried storytelling, uneven class redesigns, and bug-heavy updates have supplied plenty of friction, yet *Midnight* already feels bolder and more consequential than most modern WoW expansions. | © Blizzard Entertainment

Burning Crusade Classic Dark Portal Key Art — 4. The Burning Crusade (2007)

Walking through the Dark Portal gave WoW its first true sense of expansion, opening an Outland that still feels wonderfully alien. *The Burning Crusade* introduced flying mounts, Arenas, Heroic dungeons, Blood Elves, Draenei, and a remarkable raid lineup stretching from Karazhan to the Sunwell Plateau. Much of the modern game was built on ideas tested here. Revisiting it also exposes some medieval-looking design decisions: sprawling attunement chains, reputation requirements, rigid raid compositions, and progression systems that treated latecomers like trespassers. Illidan, Kael’thas, and Lady Vashj deserved more storytelling than they originally received, but the adventure surrounding them remains foundational. | © Blizzard Entertainment

*The War Within* finally treats solo players as citizens of Azeroth rather than tourists waiting outside the raid entrance. Delves provide compact, flexible character progression, while Warbands make collections and advancement far less hostile to anyone maintaining multiple characters. Hero Talents add welcome class flavor, even when their balance and creativity vary dramatically between specializations. Khaz Algar’s underground regions are visually distinct, and Xal’atath brings the charisma Warcraft villains have recently lacked. Delve tuning occasionally bordered on experimental chaos, and repeated runs eventually exposed their limitations, but the journeys through Undermine and K’aresh maintained momentum. Wow legion — 2. Legion (2016)

*Legion* arrived with the urgency of a studio determined never to repeat *Warlords of Draenor*. Class Order Halls made each profession feel central to the war, Artifact Weapons provided strong class fantasy, and Suramar delivered one of WoW’s richest zone storylines. Demon Hunters were an exhilarating addition, while Mythic+ and World Quests permanently reshaped the endgame. An aggressive update schedule carried players through the Nighthold, Tomb of Sargeras, Argus, and Antorus without another disastrous drought. The Artifact Power treadmill exhausted alt players, and randomly dropped Legendaries could unfairly dictate performance, but those frustrations were surrounded by an almost unreasonable amount of excellent content. | © Blizzard Entertainment

Wowwotlk — 1. Wrath of the Lich King (2008)

Nostalgia certainly adds a generous stat bonus to *Wrath of the Lich King*, but its reputation was earned long before everyone started missing their old guildmates. Northrend remains a masterfully constructed continent, and Arthas’ presence throughout the campaign gives the journey a focus that later expansions often lacked. Death Knights arrived as WoW’s first Hero Class, questing became more cinematic through phasing, and Ulduar and Icecrown Citadel set enduring standards for raid design. Trial of the Crusader was an awkwardly plain detour, while Dungeon Finder began weakening server communities. Even with those flaws, no expansion has balanced accessibility, atmosphere, storytelling, and endgame ambition quite as successfully. | © Blizzard Entertainment
