*Warlords of Draenor* opened like a thunderclap and then, very slowly, asked everyone to please enjoy their personal spreadsheet fortress. The alternate-Draenor setup had muscle, the leveling campaign was sharp, and raids like Blackrock Foundry gave raiders plenty to chew on, but the expansion’s famous Garrisons made Azeroth feel weirdly lonely for an MMO. Cataclysm Classic — 9. Cataclysm (2010)

Destroying the old world was a bold move, and *Cataclysm* deserves credit for treating Azeroth like a place that could actually break. Deathwing’s return gave the expansion instant scale, while Goblins, Worgen, and the revamped leveling zones made early-game *WoW* feel faster and more modern. *The Burning Crusade* is not elegant by modern standards, and honestly, that is part of its strange charm. Outland looked like someone had smashed fantasy art, alien ruins, and heavy metal album covers into one cracked planet, while Blood Elves, Draenei, flying mounts, Heroic dungeons, and Arena PvP expanded the game’s vocabulary almost overnight.
