And when the game finally was revealed by EA, a tidal wave of new information followed. It was too much for any reader, so here's an article with everything we know about the game in one place. We'll provide the essential information on each aspect, and update this page as more details are discovered, so you can return periodically to keep up to speed.

Everything We Know About Battlefield 2042

Battlefield 2042: Setting

Okay let's start at the very beginning - Battlefield 2042 is set in the near–future of 2042, a war is raging between Russia and the U.S., and this war is fought all over the world. So we'll see environments from almost every continent, as well as weapons and vehicles that currently only exist as prototypes. Robot dogs have been the most heavily featured 'future–tech' we've seen in Battlefield 2042 so far. Check out the reveal trailer for a sense of the time and place:

Battlefield 2042: Release Date & Pre–Order

Battlefield 2042 will release on October 22, unless you pre-order the Gold or Ultimate edition of the game, in which case you can begin playing a week earlier on October 15. The game is available to pre-order today either physically or digitally.

Battlefield 2042: Platforms & Crossplay

What can you even play Battlefield on? Well, it looks like no one is missing out. Battlefield 2042 will be available for PC, Xbox One, and PS4, as well as the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. So far nothing has been revealed by EA on whether crossplay is available, unfortunately, it's not a guarantee.

Battlefield 2042: Editions & Prices

There are three versions of Battlefield 2042 available to pre-order right now: Standard Edition, Gold Edition, and Ultimate Edition. We have a full breakdown on the different versions of Battlefield 2042 and which is right for you here, but in brief:

    • $69.99 on PS5 and Series X/S (€69.99, £59.99)
    • $59.99 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One (€79.99, £69.99)

This is only going to appeal to the collectors.
    • $119,99 on console (€119.99, £109.99)
    • $109,99 on PC (€109,99, £99.99)

Battlefield 2042: Alpha & Beta

You can get access to the Battlefield 2042 beta by pre-ordering any edition of the game but for the alpha, you'll need to get a little luckier and be selected by EA as a playtester. Details on how to apply as an alpha playtester can be found here. For more details, including a probable date for the beta, we have a full article here.

Like keeping up to speed with all things Battlefield? So do we, here's a few of the new additions in case you missed anything:

Battlefield 2042: Maps

Seven maps are available on launch, ranging from a snowy mountain to an Indian scrapyard. In this article, you can find details about each of the seven maps, and in this article, we broke down the size of Battlefield 2042 maps compared to previous Battlefield titles, and to Call of Duty's Warzone. In case you're wondering, all seven maps can just about fit in Verdansk.

Here's a gallery, so you can take a look at each of the locations:

Battlefield 2042: Weapons & Vehicles

We have a massive article on all the weapons and vehicles seen so far in Battlefield 2042 right here. There are just too many to list in this article but in essence, you're getting all the weapons and vehicles you'd expect; M4s, AKs, Apache's, M1 Abrams, and F22s. This is an expansive title that's clearly inspired by mil-sim, so you're also getting some more obscure numbers like the SIG 550 and the Ruger MSR.

Battlefield 2042: The New Attachment System

Battlefield 2042 is introducing a new attachment system in which you can carry two options for each slot and swap them out mid-game. This will be a nice addition that we go into detail on here. It'll allow you to swap out a muzzle brake for a suppressor when you're beginning to flank, or perhaps change an optic out for something with stronger magnification when you find a roof top.

Battlefield 2042: Specialist Class System

Battlefield 2042's new class system will retain the four 'roles' from Battlefield, but it will introduce 'Specialists' who gain a few unique abilities within those four roles. We go into great depth on the change in this article, but basically, you will have one of ten specialists to choose from. They will still all fit within Recon, Engineer, Assault, or Support, but on top of what the class provides them, they will each have a unique ability.

Battlefield 2042: Batte Royale

EA have said publically that they are not launching the game with a BR, but there is instead a new mode that sounds incredibly similar. The 'Hazard Zone' game mode will focus on high–stakes squad play in a massive and open environment, but we are waiting for more details on this.

That's everything we know so far, but we will update this article as more information becomes available. Until then, it looks like more than enough to start getting excited about.
