Will Battlefield 2042 Be An Xbox Exclusive?

Xbox Battlefield Partnership

Microsoft and EA's partnership has been growing ever–closer since their agreement to include EA Play in the Xbox Game Pass. And at E3 this year, EA chose to unveil the gameplay of their biggest title - Battlefield 2042 - during the Xbox showcase. Now, Sony fans are growing concerned. Just how much exclusivity will Xbox users have over Battlefield 2042?

For some time now, PlayStation users have been able to gloat about the relative success of Sony's exclusives, which, except for last year's divisive Last Of Us Part II, have been very well-received. By comparison, Xbox's big exclusive franchises have been looking tired. Gears 5 was impressive but not spectacular, and Halo... well, let's just hope Infinite can give some much-needed rejuvenation to the series. Battlefield 2042 looks to position Xbox a lot more competitively this year, though. So just how much has Microsoft been able to get for their users with Battlefield?

Is Battlefield 2042 An Xbox Exclusive?

No, Battlefield 2042 is not an Xbox exclusive, so we can happily put PC and PlayStation user's minds to rest.In fact, you can pre-order one of the various editions of Battlefield 2042 on Steam or the PlayStation store today. But that doesn't mean other features and smaller events won't be exclusive. What we're going to see is something similar to Sony and Activision Blizzard's deal, whereby PlayStation users get certain parts of Call of Duty as exclusives (this is currently the case for one of BOCW's Zombie modes). They also get free cosmetic bundles quite often.

Is Battlefield 2042 Included On The Xbox Game Pass?

No, unfortunately, Battlefield 2042 will not be included with Xbox's Game Pass, so don't rush to sign up. However, if you have the Ultimate Game Pass, then you will be given access to the open beta without pre-ordering, which players will otherwise need to do. You will also be given a 10–hour trial period of the game from October 15, a week before the official launch, which again, you would need to have pre-ordered either the Gold or Ultimate editions of the game to get access to.

So, generally speaking, Xbox is not getting much exclusivity with the title. That being said, if you want to try the beta without pre-ordering, then this does open a window of opportunity. You could buy a two–week Xbox Ultimate subscription from a third–party–seller online for a few measly dollars, then, with that subscription, you could play the beta. Or you could do the same thing on October 15 for early–access, and decide whether you want to invest in the game then.
