BOOM Esports are the first regional winners at ESL One: Road to Rio. The Brazilian roster triumphed in South America and secured vital points for the Regional Major Ranking.

ESL One: Road to Rio is the first tournament featured in the new Regional Major Ranking system. Valve introduced RMR as a solution for the cancelation of the year’s second Major and the postponement of ESL One Rio, dealing wit any potential “rust” among teams that had already qualified by the old rulings.

BOOM with a head start in South America

South America is the first region whose ESL One: Road to Rio campaign came to a conclusion. With just four teams involved – BOOM Esports, Isurus, Imperial Esports and RED Canids, it was Ricardo “boltz” Prass’ BOOM that came out on top.

The former mibr player’s team lost a map in its opener versus RED Canids, but it would prove to be the only time they would taste defeat in the tournament. RED Canids’ experience was quite the opposite as they finished 0-3 in the group, leaving Isurus and Imperial to duke it out for a spot in the final vs. BOOM.

Isurus broke the Brazilian monopoly with a comeback from a map down and were close to pulling off a similar feat in the final. Five missed map points in regulation on the second map – Mirage, robbed them of the opportunity and Isurus eventually fell in double overtime to lose the game two maps to nil.

With this triumph BOOM have guaranteed themselves the best possible start in Major qualification. They get 1600 points for the RMR as well as $6000 in prize money. Isurus walk away with 1500 points and $3000, Imperial – 1400 points and $1000, while RED Canids are left with only 1300 points and no cash.

As this is an ESL tournament it is also part of the ESL Pro Tour, thus teams get points for that as well. BOOM – 200 points, Isurus – 100 points, Imperial – 50 points, and RED Canids – a glorious zero.
