Not so epic now: new glitch stops Xbox players in their tracks in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War (Credit: Activision)

Following Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's December 8 update, Xbox players are facing a game-breaking bug that is stopping some from jumping into the game. The error message, claiming "Blackout trial has ended", pops up when players load the updated game. Bloody hell!!

The message claims that players have to buy the full game, despite players already having purchased and currently running the full version. This new bug is temporarily locking players out of the game, but we are here to help! Despite Treyarch having not yet acknowledged the issue at the time of writing, there is a temporary fix that you can utilize.

We Have Your Back: A TEMPORARY FIX!!!

Let's cut to the chase, with this bug only just jumping into action with the latest update, we want to get you back into the game as soon as possible! There is a temporary workaround that has seem some success in the community, and is as follows:

  1. Select "Manage Game & Add-Ons"
  2. Click "Black Ops Cold War"
  3. Make sure you see the installed items for BOCW
  4. Make sure all these items are checked and installed
  5. Restart your game

We want to extend thanks to Charlie Intel for providing this fix for players, check out their breaking tweet just below!

Please keep in mind that this fix is not guaranteed, and has not worked for everyone! Also, not all Xbox players are experiencing the issue - so we are crossing our fingers for you! We expect that Treyarch will address this issue as soon as they can, and that Xbox players will be back into the game hopefully in the next 24 hours. It's a big shame as this latest update has brought some pretty great fixes to Cold War, as well as some new content in the lead up to Season 1! Don't let it get you down, it's almost Christmas!
