CDL Rostermania 2022-2023 | Minnesota RØKKR Confirm Roster!

Rostermania has begun. Teams are dropping players and signing new ones in preparation for the 2023 season of the Call of Duty League. You can find the latest news for each of the 12 teams, right here.

CDL Rostermania
Who's been making moves? | © EarlyGame

The 2022 season of the CDL is over. Farewell Vanguard, you were probably the buggiest game in the history of CoD, but you did give us some amazing stories (if you missed this year go back and watch NYSL's run at Major 4 to qualify for champs). Now we move on to Modern Warfare 2, but before then of course we have rostermania.

Rostermania is what we call the transfer season. Teams are selling and buying players, and hence, rosters are changing. In this article we'll keep you up-to-date on rostermania news; what are the new contract rules, which players have become free agents, and what are the rosters going into 2023. We'll keep this page regularly updated, so you can check back in whenever you need to see how your team is shaping up. You'll be able to find a detailed overview of each team beneath, arranged by order of the 2022 regular season standings.

Note: During the off-season we highly recommend some of the following content creators, without whom this article would not have been possible:

How Does Rostermania Work?

The basic premise of rostermania has been the same since the CDL began. When players are signed to an organization they're typically on what we call a "1+1". This means that they are part of the team for a year, and then exactly one week after champs the teams have the choice to extend the contract by another year and keep the player for the following season, or drop them. In this case, we say their contract is under "Team Option". If a team doesn't extend a player's contract by the CDL deadline then exactly 7 days after the deadline those players can begin signing new contracts as "Free Agents".

Here are the key dates to remember this year:

  • Teams have to decide which player contracts to extend by Aug 14th 11:59pm PT
  • Free Agents can sign new contracts from Aug 22nd 12:00am PT

Now some of these rules are changing in the future, as we detail below, but for this 2022-2023 rostermania, those are the basic rules that apply to every player's contract.

Based on the 1+1 structure of contracts thus far we can work out which players will be free to move to new organizations and which players will have their fate decided by their current organization. Teams can also choose to pick up Challengers players (the league below the CDL), and there's a lot of talent down there, so a few teams will take this option. In those cases the players are almost always free agents.

Coaches, analysts and general managers also move around in rostermania, but their contracts work in a more traditional sense, like other forms of employment.

New Contract Rules For The 2023 Season

There were a couple of new rules introduced for the 2023 season:

  • Teams can now sign 3-year contracts with players
  • The minimum salary has been increased to $55,225 (this is just the CDL making sure the Paris roster don't get shafted as hard by their terrible org)
  • At least 50% of prize winnings have to go to team members (most orgs have been doing this already)

Let's get into the free agents and teams then, shall we?

Rostermania 2022: Free Agents

There are two types of free agents in the CDL:

  • Unrestrictred Free Agents: Players who are "on the market" and available for teams to arrange contracts with.
  • Restricted Free Agents: Players who are still under one teams contract and control, although they've lost their position on the starting roster. Effectively these are the benched players.

August 27

Slasher has been confirmed as the new Main-AR for FaZe. This is going to be an interesting dynamic...

August 20

Arcitys has been dropped, and FaZe have finally broken up the god-squad. They sold him to LAG:

We've heard Arcitys had a huge buyout, but will it prove worth it?

August 13

Crowder has removed "Head Coach of FaZe" from his Twitter bio. Crowder is very highly regarded as a coach and FaZe had a decent year, so this might be more his choice to move on than the orgs. We've known for a long time that he wants more time to begin streaming.

2022 Season Overview

FaZe were very consistent and had excellent placings throughout the year, but sadly they failed to ever win an event. They were simply less dominant in Vanguard than in BOCW, and many will blame this on the lower skill gap, but it certainly doesn't reflect well on their legacy.

  • What Went Well: Consistently strong placings, and clearly still have the most talent-stacked roster in the league.
  • What Went Wrong: aBeZy and Arcity's were inconsistent, and the team were relying too heavily on godlike performances from Cell.
  • Will They Make Changes: To coaching staff yes, but it's very unlikely they drop any of their players.

OpTic Texas Rostermania | Final Standings: 2nd

Latest News

August 19

OpTic went back and undid all their changes; they're going to run it back with the same squad they had this season:

So they're choosing to gamble on iLLeY, let's hope it pays off.

August 18

Crone is suggesting that OpTic are targeting Cammy and HyDra. That would give us a team of Shotzzy (entry sub), HyDra (Slayer Sub), Scump (Flex), and Cammy (Main AR?). If rumours are true and they dropped Dashy because of his attitude then the HyDra pickup seems bizarre. Also, this team will force two players to move to new positions, and lack an IGL.

Come on Rambo, what's the plan here?

August 17

OpTic have dropped iLLeY and benched Dashy. It makes sense that they would want someone more reliable than iLLeY, given his hand situation, but the fact they benched iLLeY is breathtaking. No-one saw this coming:

Why the hell have they done this?

August 14

OpTic have dropped their substitutes, which isn't too surprising. General and Prolute probably aren't the perfect fit, and if you're OpTic, you get your pick of the pack, so why not upgrade?

Overview Of The 2022 Season

They were amazing at the start, then things went downhill, and they ended the year looking mediocre. The team would say this is all because of iLLeY's hand injury, but critics would say they still underperformed.

  • What Went Well: They started very hot, and clearly have an incredibly high ceiling. Plus, they won a major.
  • What Went Wrong: This team didn't seem to innovate or change with the meta throughout the year, they were playing at the end how they did at the start.
  • Will They Make Changes: Almost certainly not.

Latest News

The only "news" we'll get from LAT this off-season will be timeline drama between Drazah and FaZe. Seriously, they won champs, they won't be making any chances. Oh, but they will be changing their substitute.

Overview Of The 2022 Season

For a majority of the year they looked mid, but they had an outstanding end of the year and just seemed to understand how to play the game better than anyone else.

  • What Went Well: They showed that through teamwork and tactics a team could dominate despite not having as much "raw slaying talent" as other teams.
  • What Went Wrong: It was definitely a poor start to the year, and they should expect the same in MW2.
  • Will They Make Changes: No, almost certainly not; they won champs.

PaulExh has been Tweeting pictures of himself in an LRR jersey. Could be a troll, could be more?

August 17

ZooMaa leaked on stream that Afro has moved, and it looks like they're picking up Wardy in his place, with Beans apparently replacing Zer0 on the Main AR. Gizmo confirmed the news with this tweet:

And in a since-deleted tweet, Beans replied with "a new duo appears".

August 13

We do have a little news from the LRR boys:

  • Immediately after collapsing out of champs, Zer0 posted a since-deleted Tweet to the effect of: "what am I going to do now with my life", which suggested he was leaving the team.
  • But then the head coach, Dominate, posted this Tweet, which heavily implies they're all going to be sticking together:

As an LRR fan, I can only hope this turns out to be true.

Overview Of The 2022 Season

The year started well, but then Gismo had to leave for personal family matters and that pretty much destroyed LRR's mid-season. They came back strong in the Stage 4 qualifiers but couldn't put it together on LAN at Major 4 or Champs.

  • What Went Well: This team clearly has a high-ceiling and good chemistry.
  • What Went Wrong: They need to strengthen their nerves on the main stage otherwise they'll always be "onliners".
  • Will They Make Changes: Most observers thought Afro would leave, but the coach's recent Tweet makes it sound like they won't.

Seattle Surge Rostermania | Final Standings: 5th

Latest News

August 21

Crone put a Tweet out that sounds like FaZe are targeting Sib or Pred (or, at least, that's what some of the Redditors are certain of). We doubt Surge sell, but there you go.

Overview Of The 2022 Season

This was a fantastic season for Seattle. After their struggles the last two years this was the best turnaround they could have hoped for, and their future looks bright with Sib and Pred on the team.

  • What Went Well: They won a major and showed that they had some of the best slayers in the entire league.
  • What Went Wrong: In the beginning, Sib and Pred weren't as consistent, but it's really Mack and Accuracy who were more to blame by the time champs came around. Pred made them a real contender to win it this year.
  • Will They Make Changes: Well they definitely won't drop Sib or Pred, and Mack is a good dirty worker alongside Pred, but Accuracy might get dropped if they can pick up Attach.

Boston Breach Rostermania | Final Standings: 6th

August 26

No Zinni, no winni confirmed:

Methodz gets a hard time from the fanbase, but we wish him all the best.

August 15:

It looks like Boston are sticking with Vivid and Nero, picking up Owakening, and probably dropping Methodz. Check it out:

Thats a solid team, they just need to get Slasher.

August 14:

Capsidal has been dropped from the Boston Breach, which makes perfect sense; as a natural SMG he was never going to the best do-it-all substitute.

August 12:

TJhaly has officially been dropped from Boston Breach. It's a shame, but we all saw it coming:

If you're reading this Teej, you deserve a spot and we hope you find one.

Overview Of The 2022 Season

Considering Boston Breach put a team together at the last minute, and this was their debut year, they were impressive. But clearly this org is willing to make hard decisions if it means greater success.

  • What Went Well: They played close to their ceiling consistently and clearly have a strong head coach in Zed. Also, their SMG duo is going to be a good piece to build around for the future.
  • What Went Wrong: This team were simply getting out-talented at times, and if they want higher placings they will probably need to drop Methodz and/or TJ.
  • Will They Make Changes: Probably. Boston are good to their players, but as they showed us mid-season, they're absolutely willing to make changes to improve.

Toronto Ultra Rostermania | Final Standings: 7th

Latest News

September 9

The Toronto Ultra have confirmed their new roster: Scrappy, Insight, CleanX and Standy:

It's hard not to see this as a downgrade, or at least a lateral move, but it was time for Toronto to make a move.

August 25

Toronto Ultra can now officially release Cammy; Minnesota paid the buyout.

August 14

Benjamin Bance has officially been released from Toronto. This is a move money saw coming, but it's still going to be strange seeing Bance on another team (if he even gets a spot).

August 11

We've had a ton of news from Toronto already:

  • It started when their GM put out a Tweet that suggested they would make changes.
  • Then Toronto Ultra wished CleanX a happy birthday message via their official Twitter account, but only Insight replied to the Tweet, whereas Bance and Cammy ignored it.
  • The idea of CleanX and Insight staying on the team was only further supported by this reply from CleanX:

Duo? More pics in the future? If we had to guess we would assume Cammy and Bance will get dropped but CleanX and Insight are going to run it back.

Overview Of The 2022 Season

They never felt in danger of missing out on champs, but at the same time, they never looked like they were back to their BOCW levels.

  • What Went Well: This was always a strong SnD team, and they continued to show dominance in the mode.
  • What Went Wrong: Vanguard showed that this team simply lack as much of the cracked-out, young, slaying talent as other teams.
  • Will They Make Changes: Yes, they're basically forced to after giving this team a whole year to try and make it work again already.

New York Subliners Rostermania | Final Standings: 8th

Latest News

August 19

With OpTic Texas running it back, the HyDra move isn't happening, and so we expect him to stay at NYSL and get given the keys. If we had to guess the team is going to be something like HyDra, Skyz, KiSMET, and Slasher/Gunless.

August 14

On a podcast hosted by ZooMaa, Aches, Parasite, and Ben J Nissim (The Flank), half of NYSL's team went live on air to argue with each other, and they revealed how toxic the NYSL camp has been over the last year. Here is the tl;dr of what they revealed about NYSL this year:

  • Crim was an awful teammate to Neptune at the start of the year and made him cry after the Kickoff Classic.
  • HyDra was allowed more lenicancy from management than other members of the team and would go off for weeks on end and ignore scrims.
  • Crim made a joke about Algeria (HyDra's country of origin) which HyDra claims was racist.
  • Paul and Crim grew to dislike HyDra over the course of the season, and visa versa. Both of those players will probably have to leave NYSL, even if HyDra isn't there, because they also had a go at management on the podcast.
  • HyDra will probably not team with anyone on NYSL besides KiSMET anymore, and he has grown very close to Skyz, suggesting those two will try and team up for the 2023 season.

August 14

  • Crim and PaulExh have officialy been dropped. Where now for these two? Paul can surely find a spot, but Crim? If he really is that bad of a teammate then who will take a chance on the GOAT?

Overview Of The 2022 Season

NYSL had an abysmal start to the season and went into Stage 4 with only 70 points! But somehow they made the perfect miracle run. They kept winning match after match, first in the qualifiers and then at the major. And in probably the most dramatic game of the year, they beat LAT and qualified for champs in the winner's final of Major 4. But as cool as that moment was, they don't want to be in the same situation again.

  • What Went Well: They had a team that could still win despite being outslayed towards the end of the year, and that is a very nice spot to be in. Clearly, this team has a good fundamental understanding of the game, and they have good chemistry.
  • What Went Wrong: They made terrible roster decisions until DREAL took over as head coach. And we hate to be the ones to say it, but the GOAT is looking like an old man now (Sorry Crim, but don't worry, your legacy is already secure).
  • Will They Make Changes: They are in a very precarious situation; this team's future success relies on them offering enough salary to HyDra to keep him in the org and make him a franchise player. If he moves, then who knows what NYSL will do?

Florida Mutineers Rostermania | Final Standings: 9th

Latest News

August 18

Ronnie's suggesting that Florida are going to build around none other than...DavPadie. How Ogre2 still has a job is beyond us. Check it out:

Commentors were suggesting that DavPadie is going to build a team with Standy, but Standy has denied this.

August 15

Florida blew it up:

It's no surprise that Wake and Skyz left, nor that Florida released 2Real and Yeez (they trialled with Yeez in the summer and apparently he wasn't it), but we thought they would keep Major. They had a Team Option on him, and he could have been a half-decent Main AR to pair with a faster team, especially if MW2 plays slower than Vanguard.

Overview Of The 2022 Season

Florida built a team with three main ARs and one lightening quick SMG. As you'd expect they did terribly, although being Florida they obviously got a few flukey wins that no-one could predict (for some inexplicable reason they seemed to have OpTic's number this season). They also made one of the worst roster decisions in CDL history by dropping Vivid for 2Real.

  • What Went Well: They did have talented players.
  • What Went Wrong: Those talented players should never have been on the same team, they only ever needed one main AR.
  • Will They Make Changes: 100%, in fact this is probably the team that's most likely to blow it up and get a completely new roster next year.

LAG have officially released their 2023 roster: Arcitys, Nep, Huke & Spart. Holy mother of mid! This might. bethe most overpriced roster ever put together in CoD.

Sorry to be a hater but we all know it's true.

August 21

Asim has been benched, he's now a Restricted Free Agent. Poor guy, but we can't say we're surprised.

August 20

LAG bought out Alec from his FaZe contract, and are going to put him with Huke, Spart, and Neptune:

What a mid-team.

August 10

The first victim of Rostermania 2022 was LAG's assistant coach Bevils:

After some stupid roster moves mid-season we aren't surprised that the coaching staff are the first to be axed. That said, we thought head coach Ricky was going to be gone before Bevils.

Overview Of The 2022 Season

LAG were terrible the whole year, with the exception of one weekend (Major 2). It basically came down to their substitute Spart pulling out the Volk and dominating the game with a new meta before anyone had the chance to catch up. As you'd expect the Volk was GA'd shortly after this miracle run. Okay, to be fair they were also killing SnD at that time.

  • What Went Well: Major 2.
  • What Went Wrong: Terrible roster moves, seemingly little / no team chemistry, consistently underwhelming performances from everyone except Slasher (and even he slipped up more than we're used to seeing).
  • Will They Make Changes: Absolutely. But they probably won't "blow it up". Let's not forget the potential of their roster right now: Gunless, Slasher and Huke have all been superstars.

Minnesota RØKKR Rostermania | Final Standings: 11th

Latest News

August 25

Minnesota have announced their roster: Attach, Afro, Cammy and Bance. This is a team that could be a contender for chips, so it's a huge upgrade for the RØKKR.

if Afro and Cammy have good years then this could be a T4 squad.

August 22

Minnesota are rumoured to be putting a squad of Attach, Afro, Cammy, and Bance:

If Minnesota can pull this off then they've probably done the best job roster-building we've seen this year. That team sounds like they've got all the bases covered, and they should have great chemistry. Sure, this isn't a team that can reliably challenge FaZe, but given they came 11th last year, it's looking like a massive upgrade.

It will be very interesting to see if Minnesota become our 3rd "European" team, but let's wait and see if they can actually make this happen.

August 14

Minnesota have released everyone, even Havok. We thought they would surely keep Havok, but it looks like they want a clean slate:

Which of these fellas besides Attach will find a spot next year?

Overview Of The 2022 Season

Minnesota had some highlights online in the Stage 3 qualifiers, but besides that it was a pretty tragic year for a team that were solid in BOCW. It's similar to the Toronto Ultra story but worse.

  • What Went Well: Attach has still got it, and while dropping Major wasn't a popular move, the Havok pickup was wise.
  • What Went Wrong: Standy fell off, Priestahh is looking less and less like a pro-caliber player, and they seem to have lost all the ice they were once famous for.
  • Will They Make Changes: They're going to have to. Attach is 100% leaving unless they can offer him a record-breaking 3-year contract, which there's only a small possibility he takes just to make the last years of his career comfortable.

August 22

Temp keeps baiting the idea that Clay is going to duo with him down at Paris (or Vegas Legion as they will be called next season).

August 15

John, Johnny, Jimbo are free agents, Temp will stay.

August 14

Paris have officially dropped GRVTY. Not really suprising from Paris.

August 12:

Temp was caught saying he's probably going to Vegas for the 2023 season, which implies that Vegas Legion (as they'll be know next year) will have some kind of team house or facility in Vegas. Then we'll really see how good Jimbo and Johnny are.

Overview Of The 2022 Season

What can I say? They won two games. Two. The whole year. At least the only way is up.

  • What Went Well: They made games look more competitive than their atrocious record suggests. And Temp had some good slaying (although let's be honest he was stat padding, and we don't blame him).
  • What Went Wrong: The team don't have a facility, they play on ridiculous ping from all across the country, and there seems to be about zero chemistry between the players.
  • Will They Make Changes: Yep. As with every year, Paris will ask Theory to put together the best team he can from the scraps leftover from rostermania.
