According to rumors, Call of Duty 2021, likely called Call of Duty WW2: Vanguard, will run on the Modern Warfare Engine that Infinity Ward introduced for its 2019 game. This possibility has fans excited, as Black Ops Cold War continues to lag behind Modern Warfare in both popularity and quality. Let's dive in...

The thing about Modern Warfare 2019's engine was that it was a huge revamp, stepping up the game in terms of performance and graphical fidelity. It took five bloody years to develop, so it was a surprise when 2020's Black Ops Cold War did not utilize the impressive new technology. Then again, BOCW yielded a lot of unwanted surprises...

There were tremendous improvements in Infinity Ward's engine, including a host of impressive features that really gave Modern Warfare the technological edge, despite being released a year before BOCW. Here's a little snippet of the engine's cool-ass features:

The new technology utilizes the latest advancements in visual engineering, including a physically-based material system allowing for state of the art photogrammetry... Spectral rendering delivers thermal heat radiation and infrared identification for both thermal and night-vision in-game imaging. The technical investment provides a cutting edge animation and blend shape system...

Well, that's mostly technical jargon: it's bloody good! So, the news that Call of Duty 2021 will probably be using this engine is fantastic indeed. To be honest, it is probably the only exciting news coming from this year's CoD entry...

Will Call of Duty WW2: Vanguard Use the Modern Warfare Engine?

Call of Duty WW2: Vanguard, or CoD 2021, will most likely be developed using the Modern Warfare Engine. The engine is more or less set, after VGC's Andy Robinson revealed it. The game is coming from Sledgehammer, and it has been basically confirmed that it will be a World War 2 setting, despite many fans's being rather unhappy with the idea.

Additionally, it is still unclear how the Warzone integration will work with this year's Call of Duty game. The engine is shared with Modern Warfare, so perhaps this will help, but the setting is in stark contrast to what is already in Warzone. Maybe a new, WW2-themed map? Maybe they'll just throw all the weapons in again. If that happens, then we'll cry.
