The Call of Duty League is your chance to watch the game played at the absolute highest level. In this article you can find everything you need to know about when to watch, what the current team standings are, and what the current rule set is for competitive play. You can expect matches almost every weekend between now and the release of Modern Warfare 2, so check back in to stay up to date through the highs and lows of the 2022 season.
How Does The Call of Duty League Work In 2022?
The best 48 players in the world, across twelve teams, will battle it out across four Majors and one Championship final to be named the CDL Champions of the 2022 Season. Teams play each other across three weekends prior to each Majors to qualify for these LAN events. And over the span of the four Majors, the teams gain points in the overall standings to qualify for the Championship LAN event at the end of the year. If they win that, then they're crowned the Champions, and we move on to the next Season and the next title.
If this is your first year getting into Call of Duty esports, then you might be surprised at how differently the game is played when compared to normal public matches. In short, you'll be watching teams of 4 play Hardpoint, Search and Destory, and Control, across a select few Vanguard maps and with a heavily reduced arsenal of weapons and equipment. But we go into the detail on the full competitive settings further down in the article.
Where Can You Watch CDL Matches In 2022?
Every single game is streamed directly to their YouTube channel live. It's that simple, thankfully. But, if you prefer more of a streaming vibe, then a lot of ex-pros and content creators hold watch parties during LAN events. Personally, we would advise Zoomaa, host of the Flank podcast, as one of the best ex-pros who watches and analyses current competitive CoD.

What's The Current Map Pool?
The current map pool is abysmally small, granted there aren't a ton of competitive maps in Vanguard, but we'll definitely need more variety for the rest of the season. Here is the current map pool by game mode:
Hardpoint | Search and Destroy | Control |
Tuscan | Tuscan | Tuscan |
Bocage | Berlin | Gavutu |
Berlin | Bocage | Berlin |
Gavutu | Desert Siege |
There are so few maps that teams can't really avoid playing any one of them, but there is still a veto system.
The Map Veto System
Higher seeded teams choose whether they will be Team A or Team B. For evenly seeded teams, they're re divided into Team A or Team B based on a coin flip, then they follow this system for each mode.
Hardpoint
- Team A bans one map from pool
- Team B bans one remaining map from pool
- Team A picks Map 1 of the remaining maps
- Team B picks side on Map 1
- The remaining map is played for Map 4
- Team A picks side on Map 4
Search and Destroy
- Team B bans one map from pool
- Team A bans one remaining map from pool
- Team B picks Map 2 of the remaining maps
- Team A chooses side on Map 2
- The remaining map is played for Map 5
- Team B chooses side on Map 5
Control
- Team A bans one map
- The Remaining Map is played for Map 3
- Team B chooses side on Map 3
As we said up top, we really want to see more maps. Just imagine if Upheaval was remastered for SnD...
What Are The Current Competitive Rules?
In competitive Call of Duty, a great many loadout items are prohibited. Some of them are officially banned, and others are banned by the players themselves through GA (Gentleman's Agreement).
Berlin Control & Trophy Systems Update (April 22)
In Vanguard Season 3 Trophy systems are returning to the game, at the same time teams have been scrimming Berlin Control. Both Berlin Control and Trophy systems could therefore make it into the official ruleset. In all honesty, we expect the Trophy to be GA'd because certain holds will be so hard to break (looking at you Gavutu P4). But Berlin Control really could happen, Asim mentioned on The Flank that it plays really well, although it will favor AR-dominant teams. We'll keep you posted as soon as we hear anything official.
Minor Rules Update (March 4)
On March 4 the following tweaks were announced:
- Control round 5 tiebreakers will be based off ticks, not kills.
- Bocage A-Bomb site is being moved from inside the building, to outside.
- Fixing smokes is on Sledgehammers radar.
- Casablanca is being tested, still too early to tell if it’s viable.
