Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered will be released this year instead of Call of Duty WW2 Vanguard! This is huge Call of Duty 2021 news that no one saw coming.
Well... it's not exactly true that no one saw this coming. We reported just yesterday that Call of Duty WW2 Vanguard will not be released this year:
Thus, this just further strengthens our belief that CoD WW2 Vanguard is too much of a mess to be released this year. Since Activision can hardly let a year go by without milking the CoD-Cash-Cow though, it seems we will be getting Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered this year!
Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered Release Date
There is no exact release date yet, but there is a leak by SoapKai. More specifically, there was a leak by SoapKai, which got struck with a DMCA. We never understood DMCA strikes, because, if anything, they give leaks more credibility. The leak claimed that Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remastered would be releasing this year instead of CoD Vanguard:
Should clarify - this doesn't mean we aren't getting a brand new CoD in 2021 or/and we are receiving a MW2 MP Remaster. Unknown for which part of the info here is the reason for Activision wanting it down https://t.co/MPfWKY1KAi— SoapKai (@thesoapkai) April 27, 2021
In his original leak - which got taken down - SoapKai states that Sledgehammer Games will be relegated to being a support studio for now, because CoD Vanguard is currently in an 'unreleasable' state.
Fellow leaker TomHenderson chimed in on this, saying that, yes, a DMCA gives this leak more credibility, but it doesn't yet deny or confirm anything:
It would appear that the discord DMCA takedown from @thesoapkai is a legitimate takedown from Activision.— Tom Henderson (@_Tom_Henderson_) April 27, 2021
However, this does not confirm or deny anything. Activision has a tendency to issue DMCA's falsely and IMO, we should have seen more DMCA's issued to people covering it.
At this point we have to remind you though, that TomHenderson also supported the idea of CoD WW2 Vanguard not releasing this year, due to serious production issues.
Now, any true CoD fan knows that Modern Warfare 2 is the one CoD multiplayer remaster that everyone is waiting for. Activision could release a Modern Warfare 2 Remaster unannounced, and it would still top the charts like a Drake album. By all accounts and purposes, Modern Warfare 2 is Activision's ace up the sleeve: When things go wrong, just release a MW2 Multiplayer Remaster and watch the bank account go ching-ching.
It makes sense to us that Vanguard would get postponed, with BOCW not being all Activision hoped it would be and Warzone still going strong and needing a lot of attention. A Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Remaster release would keep everybody happy and give Battlefield 6 stiff competition without even releasing a new game.
