Two new perks were just revealed in the Warzone Season 5 Roadmap, Combat Scout and Tempered. We have a description of how they work. One sounds very strong, one sounds very weak. A healthy balance perhaps?

We're entering that special time again at the end of each Season; more people get online to complete the Battle Pass, and we start to get hyped for what's in store with the next season. And we ask each other, with anticipation: "will the new guns be meta or won't they?". But a question we haven't had to discuss in the history of Warzone so far - "will the new perksbe meta?" - is suddenly dawning on us. Well, are they going to be? Keep reading to find out.

What Do The New Warzone Perks Do?

Combat Scout live pings people when you shoot them and Tempered increases each armor plate 75 points of health rather than the usual 50, but limits you to only two plates. Call of Duty's blog post confirms that Tempered is for the second perk slot, but it doesn't specify which slot Combat Scout is for. We've provided a full description of both perks from the devs below, and a brief explanation of how competitive they will be.

Combat Scout

The first is Combat Scout; with this Perk, Operators receive a burst of in-field intel, as damaging an enemy briefly highlights the foe in bright orange and automatically pings them. Whether it’s confirming a callout or finding someone cooped up in a building behind penetrable cover, this Perk only grows stronger if the Operator behind it can communicate effectively to their squadmates.

This is going to be the one players gravitate to. It's a hugely advantageous burst of intel, that will only be limited by how long it provides the outline and ping for. But if it goes in the second perk slot? That's a coveted position, and there's fierce competition for it. Then you have to start asking if it trumps Overkill or Ghost.

I think a perk 3 slot would be more appropriate, though, as it's most similar to Tracker or High Alert. Let's hope so anyway.

Tempered

The other is Tempered, which looks to fundamentally change Armor values within Warzone. When an Operator is under the effects of Tempered, their Armor Plates are heavier and more reinforced – only two of them are needed for an Operator to be considered “fully armored” compared to the standard three. In other words, Tempered allows each Armor Plate to absorb 75 points of damage instead of the standard 50, but an Operator will only be able to wear two at a time instead of three. This unique change also comes at the sacrifice of your Perk 2 slot, so choose your perk setup wisely before bulking up with those reinforced plates.

I could be wrong, but I find it inconceivable that people would take this perk. We know it needs to go in the second slot, and it's objectively worse than not just Ghost or Overkill, but probably Restock too. Maybe there's a play I'm not seeing here, but I don't think so.

Warzone Season 5 will launch on Thursday, August 12 at 00:00 ET (05:00 BST, 06:00 CEST), although a pre-download will be available from Tuesday, August 10. We've come to know this as the standard release time for new Seasons, so no surprises here. That does mean you've only got a week left to finish your Battle Pass, though, so good luck!
