Cloud9 are the latest and last squad to join the eight-team bracket of CS:GO tournament DreamHack Open Leipzig. The former Major winners knocked off eUnited in the final of the North American qualifier, thus securing the final spot for the first big LAN event of 2020.

The final of the NA qualifier could have gone smoothly for Cloud9 but they made it hard on themselves on the first map – Overpass, and needed overtime to finally win that map despite leading 15-9 in regulation. They learned their lesson for the second map, at least, closing the door on eUnited with a 16-10 scoreline on Inferno.

In Leipzig, Cloud9 will be joined by the remaining qualification winners – Heroic, MAD Lions, and Sprout, as well as the originally invited teams – BIG, North, Renegades, and Virtus.pro. The organizers were quick to commence the draw after the qualifiers concluded, so each of these squads already know what awaits them in the German city.

With the groups drawn and initial matchups decided upon, here is what DreamHack Open Leipzig 2020 will look like on its first day:

Group A

  • BIG
  • Renegades
  • Virtus.pro
  • Cloud9

Group B

  • North
  • Heroic
  • Sprout
  • MAD Lions

First-round matchups look like this:

Group A

BIG – Virtus.pro

Renegades – Cloud9

Group B

North – Sprout

Heroic – MAD Lions

The LAN finals of DreamHack Open Leipzig will take place on January 24-26. The tournament presents a number of motivations for the participants to do well, aside from, you know, wanting to, like, not lose.

For one, there’s money – a total prize pool of $100,000, to be specific. Then there’s the guaranteed spot at one of the premier CS:GO tournaments this year - DreamHack Masters Jönköping. And finally, being able to call yourself the first LAN champion of the decade would certainly be a nice feeling, wouldn’t you agree?
