A short cinematic finally confirms Overwatch hero 32 Echo after her initial reveal all the back at BlizzCon 2018.
The sleuths here at EarlyGame have been after this story ever since Blizzard’s Twitter tease. In our previous article, we speculated that Hero 32 could be one of two options - Overwatch co-founder Dr. Mina Liao or the elegant lady-Omnic Echo. In a way, we were correct about both!
The new hero is officially Echo, Dr. Liao’s masterful creation.
In the classic style of dramatic Blizzard storytelling, Echo is introduced like this:
“Introducing Echo. An evolutionary robot programmed with a rapidly adapting artificial intelligence, Echo represents the cutting edge of technology.”
The short cinematic informs us that Liao was a talented scientist who helped build the first Omnics. When they turned evil and attacked humanity, she was recruited by none other but young Jack Morrison (better known as Soldier 76) to join the world organization known as Overwatch. The doc initially refused, but her best creation, her echo, did. Enter Hero 32! That’s as far as the cinematic takes us. We expect to see Echo in the next big Overwatch update, and of course, in Overwatch 2!
