Elon Musk and Tesla have announced plans to build an anthropomorphic robot. At Tesla Inc's artificial intelligence showcase last week, Musk explained his plans for the Tesla Bot, and the capabilities they were envisioning. We've got all the foreboding details beneath.

It feels like we're living on the brink of a terrifying dystopia. And much like a Bond villain ready to usher in this 'new dawn', Elon Musk sits in his lair, inventing weird and wonderful machines. He's certainly not afraid to play god, and his recent creation brings to mind the same naive hopefulness of Jurassic Park's John Hammond. It forces us to make the same complaint as the other characters in that film:

Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn’t stop to think if they should.

Okay, perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself, what has Elon created that's so terrifying?

The Elon Musk Robot

Elon Musk's Tesla Bot will be designed with the proportions and general shape of a human, and should be able to do everyday tasks like picking out groceries and lifting heavy boxes. Here's a render of the proposed design:

I'm not sure if it's better or worse that this thing is faceless. I appreciate that they aren't trying to comfort me with the design, but it would keep me up at night to know one was wandering around my house doing chores...

How Much Will A Tesla Bot Cost & When Can You Get One?

We don't know how much one will cost or when it will be released but expect it to be in the six-figures at least on launch, and for that launch to be many years down the line. I'm sorry I can't say it'll be sooner and cheaper, but we are talking about humanoid robots. In real life.

This feels like a gimmicky pitch, so it might not even come to fruition, but Musk has proved the haters wrong on numerous occasions recently.
