Studio Behind Super Mario Bros. Movie Rumored To Be Making A Legend of Zelda Film Next!

The Super Mario Bros. Movie hasn't even been released yet, and we're already hearing about future plans for the studio behind the film, Illumination. Apparently their next project is going to be a Zelda movie.

The upcoming Super Mario Bros. Movie with Chris Pratt looks... divisive. It hasn't come out yet, so we don't want to be too harsh, but it looks like it has potential to be truly dreadful (why couldn't they get a voice actor with an Italian accent?) Nevertheless, this is Nintendo, so it will no doubt be one of the highest-grossing movies of the year. Hence, the talks of a potential Zelda movie next.

A Legend of Zelda Film Is In The Works!

As reported by Giant Freakin Robot, the studio behind the Super Mario Bros. Movie, Illumination, are already beginning to work on a similar film for the Legend of Zelda franchise. They claim that their "trusted and proven" sources have given them the information, but they aren't more specif than that.

The greatest hero of Hyrule is finally on his way to the big screen. Our trusted and proven sources tell us Illumination — the same studio behind projects like the Despicable Me franchise and the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie — is developing an animated The Legend of Zelda movie.

If true, this would be the first adaptation of Zelda that we've ever seen for the big screen. But first thing's first, we've got the new Legend of Zelda game coming out in May to enjoy (if you still need the console for it, you can buy a Switch at a decent price here).

Obviously anything Zelda related is making it on to this list:
