Back in 2019, when the world was still alright, Netflix released Sex Education seemed to hit a sweet spot. Fans were captivated by the premise: Otis, a very awkward high school student, uses the advice of his mother, a sex therapist, to turn a profit.

But, alas, that's going to be it: season 4 will be the final season of Netflix's Sex Education. We've got everything you need to know about the upcoming finale, starting with the most important question: when does it air?

Sex Education Season 4 | Release Date

Netflix saw the opportunity for the pun and took it: Season 4 of Sex Education is coming on September 21, 2023. Get it? Coming? Chapeau, Netflix, couldn't have done it better myself!

It's bittersweet to know it's going to be the last season now, even though creator Laurie Nunn herself didn't when she started working on the script for season 4: "It just started to feel very clear that the stories were coming to an end, the characters were being left in a place that I felt really good about."

And if there is one person to trust on that decision, it'd be the creator, right?

Sex Education Season 4 | What's Gonna Happen?

You know how it is: if you haven't caught up with season 3 yet, be aware of slight spoilers!

For all the heavenly aspects of the new school, there may be trouble in paradise: health and friendliness are the top priority, everyone is super-welcoming and the whole Cavendish College is the epitome of being woke and progressive, making the former Moordale students seem way more "normal."

To top it all off: at Cavendish, there already is another sex therapist at the school called O, rivaling Otis' business model. Apart from that, audiences are going to meet the new popular crowd "the Coven" and obviously, being nice is equal to being cool at Cavendish.

However, there are some other things that still need clearing up in the final season: how are Maeve and Otis handling being apart? How does Otis cope with not only losing his sex therapy monopoly, but also with having a sibling now, all of that without Maeve at his side?

Jackson has some introspection to do as well, Adam's got lots of issues to work through with his family and we can be sure to see more of Cal and their home life. But maybe just see for yourself and enjoy the trailer:

Sex Education Season 4 | Cast

While some characters had to leave for good, we'll still get the main cast. Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa and Gillian Anderson will reprise their roles as Otis, Maeve, Eric and Jean respectively. Aimee Lou Wood will return as Aimee, Adam will be portrayed by Connor Swindells again and Dua Saleh and Kedar Williams-Stirling will both return as Cal and Jackson.

New faces include Dan Levy as Mr. Molloy, Thaddea Graham plays Cavendish's sex therapist O, and the Coven, consisting of Anthony Lexa, Felix Mufti and Alexandra James.

There are some exits, though: while Maeve still is in season 4, she's still in the US and her parts will be cut back a little bit. Gone for good are Olivia (Simone Ashley), Ola and Lily (Patricia Allison and Tanya Reynolds) and teacher Emily Ans (Rakhee Thakrar).

While we're sad to see them leave, we'll go mark our calendars for September 21. In Netflix's words: "Get your tissues ready, let's finish this together." The sex puns just won't stop and I'm here for them.
