We continue our visit through the ESL One Rio closed qualifiers with the North American region. Six Minor spots were up for the taking and it’s fair to say the ones to get them were among the predictions.

Favorites get the Ws in ESL One Rio NA closed qualifier

The top four of the North American closed qualifier separated itself from the rest of the bunch convincingly. Cloud9, Gen.G, FURIA, and Bad News Bears lost a combined one map among them – BNB versus Rugratz.

Even with the top four’s dominance, there was still a story to remember from this part of qualification. Triumph put up a, wait for it, triumphant run to the Minor despite losing their very first game to FURIA. Neither of Swole Identity, Mythic and Orgless could put a stop to Triumph’s rampage through the lower bracket and against all odds, we’ll see the latter in the Americas Minor.

Team Envy, who were FURIA’s victim in the upper bracket, became the final team to book a ticket to the Minor. They were too much for YeaH Gaming in the lower bracket’s deciding fixture, which Envy won with a clean 2-0.

To recap, here are the six North American teams that are going to the ESL One Rio Americas Minor:

  • Gen.G
  • Cloud9
  • FURIA Esports
  • Bad News Bears
  • Team Envy
  • Triumph

The remaining two participants come from South America whose closed qualifier was played a few days earlier. Those teams are BOOM Esports and RED Canids. The ESL One Rio Americas Minor is set for April 26 – May 2. The top two teams advance to the New Challengers stage of the Major, while the third-placed will proceed to the 3rd Place Play-In.
