The North American leg of open qualification for ESL One Rio has concluded. The third and fourth open qualifiers produced the final four teams that would take part in the closed qualifier, taking the total number of participating teams to 16.

Who got out of the ESL One Rio NA open qualifier grinder

Before we get to the winners, we should point out that Recon 5 are far and away the biggest losers after this week’s open qualifiers. This team first started their Bo3 decider in open qualifier No. 3 with a 0-1 deficit due to still being tied up in a FLASHPOINT qualifier. They lost that game 2-1 to Mythic. Recon 5 then followed that nonsense with another 2-1 loss in the deciding moment, this time to YeaH Gaming, despite having all of the momentum following a comeback from 14-9 down on the second map. Depressing scenes, man.

So yeah, Mythic and YeaH advanced from open qualifier No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, at the expense of Recon 5. Team Divine topped Rap Gang in another three-map contest in the second Bo3 of qualifier No.3, although the final map of Inferno was anything but tens with its 16-6 scoreline. Pujan “FNS” Mehta’s Orgless was the second team to advance from qualifier No. 4, doing so in two maps over Big Frames.

With the open qualifiers behind us, the North American ESL One Rio closed qualifier team list looks like this:

  • Cloud9
  • eUnited
  • FURIA
  • Gen.G
  • Bad News Bears
  • Chaos
  • Swole Identity
  • Triumph
  • Envy
  • Rugratz
  • LiViD
  • Ze Pug Godz
  • Divine
  • Mythic
  • Orgless
  • YeaH

The North American closed qualifier is going to be played online on March 6-8. The top six teams will advance to the Americas Minor. For the rest the closed qualifier will be the end of their Major experience.
