FIFA 21 release

Keep in mind, EA Sports has not officially announced FIFA 21 yet. We'd like to hear more about that earlier but our bet is the publisher will stick to tradition and reveal the game during EA PLAY 2020 in June. If EA indeed chooses to be traditionalist about it, we're going to receive the next FIFA title somewhere in late September/early October as has been the case for quite some time.

MAY 5 UPDATE

EA Sports announced EA Play for June 11. The event will be held entirely online due to the coronavirus pandemic, but the publisher promised exciting news and some world premieres, one of which could be FIFA 21.

JUNE 18 UPDATE

The official release date for FIFA 21 is October 9, 2020 for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Those wo pre-order the Champions and Ultimate edition will get the game three days earlier - on October 6. The PlayStation 5 port will arrive at an unknown date in late 2020.

If you buy FIFA 21 for PlayStation 4, you get the upgrade to the PS5 version for free. It's the same from Xbox One to Xbox Series X. More information on that process on EA's home page. All progress made in FUT and VOLTA on a PS4/Xbox One version will translate to the next-gen consoles. The rest goes to the bin.

JUNE 5 UPDATE

EA Play was not affected by the coronavirus, but it was affected by the ongoing protests in the United States of America. EA Sports have been unusually outspoken on the topic and have voiced support for the Black Lives Matter movement almost daily since George Floyd's death started the whole thing. The company already postponed the Madden NFL 2021 trailer indefinitely to keep the focus on the protests. Now, they've announced EA Play will also be moved back, even if just for a week, to June 18.

This means that even if there is a FIFA 21 announcement on the cards at EA Play, we'll have to wait a bit longer to hear it. On the bright side, this delay enhances the chances of that happening because time is not something Electronic Arts have on their hands with all these delays and the usual FIFA release dates drawing near.

MAY 12 UPDATE

EA Play may be affected by the coronavirus but it looks like FIFA 21 won't have similar issues. EA's release schedule for the second half of the year has both FIFA 21, Madden NFL 21 and NHL 21 all lined up for their regular fall release.

Gaming platforms

JUNE 18 UPDATE

FIFA 21 will be released on the following platforms:

  • PC
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox One
  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X
  • Google Stadia
  • Nintendo Switch (FIFA 21 Legacy Edition)

FIFA 21 will support the new Dual Entitlement System from Electronic Arts to make the transition to the next console generation smooth. The system works similar to Xbox Smart Delivery:

It can be assumed that FIFA 21 will be released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One at the start even with a new console generation knocking at the door. A slimmed-down release for Nintendo Switch is regarded as probable at this point in time. A Google Stadia version has been confirmed for a winter release.

How EA plans to adjust to the introduction of the new Sony and Microsoft consoles, which are expected in late 2020, will be one of the more interesting topics to follow regarding FIFA 21.

We've got it goin' on here, so as soon as there is any official (or unofficial, he-he) news surrounding the next FIFA game, you'll find it here first.

You can still keep up with FIFA 20 in the meantime.
