The FIFA 21 TOTY voting is on! All 70 nominees have been announced by EA Sports, and you can now pick your favorites to receive a special card as part of the TOTY promo. As long as they are among the nominees of course.

We're still awaiting the second Headliners team tomorrow evening but the real thrill came in the form of TOTY voting. The voting sections are open, the candidates are revealed and it's our turn to show up and pick those that are most worthy.

FIFA 21 TOTY Candidates Revealed

EA Sports lifted the veil on the 70 nominees for the FIFA 21 TOTY. The names which some of the best cards in FUT will be based upon will be decided in the following 10 days, so you'll probably want to back your favorites with a vote.

You can do that only if he's among the 70 players EA Sports picked up as nominees, though, so as much as we'd all want to cast a vote for Patrick Bamford, that's not an option. EA Sports should feel ashamed of themselves.

Anyway, to the nominees. The 70 players have been unevenly spread between the four lines that make up a football team. The focus is definitely on attack. Over a third of the players are forwards compared to just 10% goalkeepers. Defenders and midfielders are represented almost equally, but still trail the forwards by a considerable margin.

FIFA 21 TOTY by Position

  • 7 Goalkeepers
  • 18 Defenders
  • 19 Midfielders
  • 26 Forwards

Pasting all 70 names here would tire our fingers and your eyes, so let's go through some of the highlights instead and try to pick out the favorites for the final eleven.

FIFA 21 TOTY Favorites

Goalkeepers

Last year Alisson was a lock at GK but things aren't as straightforward this time. The Brazilian faces strong competition from Champions League finalists Keylor Navas and our pick to make the cut - Manuel Neuer. The German benefits from Bayern München's amazing 2019/20 season and is unlikely to be his team's only representative if he does make it.

Defenders

Defence is where it gets much tougher. Liverpool dominated the line last year with Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson and they might have similar success again given the competition. Alphonso Davies, again based more on team success, is the only strong candidate we see to dislodge a Scouse. Otherwise, we'd plump for Sergio Ramos or Marquinhos to partner Van Dijk at CB.

Midfielders

The FIFA 21 TOTY midfield has potential to be very interesting. We believe the two outstanding Premier League No. 10s Bruno Fernandes and Kevin De Bruyne are making it no matter what. The system EA Sports are using for the squad is 4-3-3, so there's just one more slot for the remaining 17 candidates to fight for. We'd love it if Alejandro Gómez pulls off the upset and we believe Heung-Min Son is in with a realistic chance, but for our money, we'd go with another Bayern man - Joshua Kimmich.

Forwards

If there's any objectivity involved, clinical strikers like Ciro Immobile and Erling Haaland should have strong campaigns to make the squad. Unfortunately for the underdogs, we simply can't see either Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo being left out by voters. We're even a little scared thet Robert Lewandowski might be overruled by Neymar's star power, but we believe in people at least that much.

Voting is on and will continue to be so until January 18. You can see the full list of players and cast your voice on the EA website. We still don't know the exact date the cards will be introduced to FUT packs, but EA have a thing for Friday releases, so a January 22 target seems quite possible. At worst we can stretch it out to January 25, no later.
