The first couple of teams to be eliminated from this year’s IEM Katowice 2020 are Renegades and Cloud9. The two teams failed to get a victory from their first pair of matches in Poland and will be packing their bags earlier than they had hoped.
IEM Katowice 2020 Day 2: still a lot of 2-0s across the board
The first day of the premier CS:GO tournament produced a single three-map series and sadly, the second day did not improve much on that part.
Natus Vincere were once again involved in a third map in their game against Fnatic. This time it was the opposition that prevailed, however, and in a very similar way to how Na’Vi won over FaZe on Monday – behind amazing second-half defense. Trailing 10-5 at the break on Mirage, Fnatic won 11 out of 13 rounds after switching sides to prevail and advance to Group A’s upper bracket final.
There, they will play Astralis. The defending champions won both maps vs. Team Vitality, but needed double overtime on Vertigo to prevent the match from going into a third map.
In the lower bracket of Group A it was FaZe Clan and Ninjas in Pyjamas that celebrated. Neither team faced much resistance from Renegades and Cloud9, respectively, and will be playing at IEM Katowice 2020 for at least one more day. The tournament for RNG and C9 is officially over.
Group B chimed in with two matches in yesterday’s program. In the more entertaining fixture, we saw a second deciding map on the day, third overall for the event, in which Evil Geniuses came out on top of MAD Lions. Another Vertigo overtime marked the Liquid – Virtus.pro meeting. This time we had to settle for just one additional period which was taken by the North Americans. They had little trouble to then close out VP on Mirage for a clean sweep.
What’s on today at IEM Katowice 2020
Wednesday is another six-piece offering at the Spodek Arena. Group B will hold the chunk of the action today, with four games played there. The list of fixtures for day 3 is:
