No matter if you are a newbie or an experienced player, building in Fortnite is already unique and complex. We have some tips and tricks that will make you a building virtuoso.

Building in Fortnite is essential because if you want to achieve the Victory Royale, having a good aim is not enough.

Even veterans who have played a few seasons never stop practicing. To help you here, we've put together some tips, from keybinding to building techniques. To all Bob the Builders out there, can we do this? Sure we can.

Fortnite Keybinds

In Fortnite's settings, you can customize your keybindings. The first thing that matters is whether you play on mouse and keyboard or controller. Both have their advantages.

While on M&K, the editing, which is necessary for a building battle, is much easier, and on your controller, you have an aim assist which makes direct fighting easier. At the end of the day, it is a matter of taste on what you want to play on.

No matter what you choose, in order to get really good, you just have to practice, practice, practice.

Practice Building

In the pub matches of Fortnite, there is matchmaking, meaning you will also meet other beginners but you will soon notice that your opponents are getting stronger and stronger. That's especially true when you play with friends who have been conquering the Battle Royale mode for a long time.

To keep up, we recommend that you practice building outside the pubs. For this purpose, Fortnite has a creative mode where you can choose some maps, on which you can practice building and editing. To do this, select the mode and enter the code of an island. We have picked out 3 codes of islands for you to practice on.

  • The largest training map: code 3107-2892-7726
  • Shooting, editing, and building: code 1598-9896-9828
  • Galaxy building battles: Code 0321-6910-4281

Building Techniques to Master

As soon as you have developed a feeling for building and now know when to press which key for which structure, it is time to learn certain building techniques. First and foremost, these techniques are designed to protect you and allow you to reach a higher position as quickly as possible.

The 90s

To do the basic 90s, you need to place two walls and a floor. Then you jump and place a stair under you. If you do this at the right moment, you will get a push upwards. When you are on the stairs, repeat the process again. So wall, wall, floor, stairs. If you do it right, you will always turn 90 degrees, which is why this technique is called the 90s.

Stairs Floor Wall

To build up a mountain in a hurry, for example, it is not enough to simply use the stairs. The danger of being spotted by enemies and getting shot down is too high. As a result, you end up on the ground again and in the worst case, you die from fall damage. Worry not, there is a technique for that!

It keeps you safe when high and makes you aware of the shots before it is too late. All you have to do is build a floor under your stairs and a wall in front of the stairs. Sounds easy now, but to learn this quickly, here are some tips and tricks.

There are more things to learn over time but these two techniques are the basic framework of a building. Once you have mastered them, the rest, like double ramping, side jumping, or reverse jumping, will come naturally.
