Fortnite will soon be getting a graphics update today - at least for some players. The GPU developer NVIDIA will be releasing a whole range of new graphical upgrades, mainly focused on real-time ray tracing.

What is Ray Tracing in RTX?
Real-time ray tracing is one of the main features of the RTX card series from NVIDIA as well as the upcoming graphics cards from AMD. New features include ray tracing reflections with shiny glass surfaces. They show in real-time what is behind you, ray tracing shadows for more realistic darkness and detailed shadows, and a number of other lighting and reflection upgrades.

To demonstrate the power of ray tracing and DLSS, NVIDIA has partnered with leading Fortnite developers to create the RTX Treasure Run, which can be accessed via Creative Mode. On this map, players are dropped off at the entrance of a museum where they are challenged to a scavenger hunt that demonstrates the various ray-tracing effects. Along the way, players can explore a hall of mirrors, a medieval castle, a jungle, climb a giant statue, and explore a sunken research lab to uncover hidden treasures.
To take advantage of all new NVIDIA updates from Fortnite, players will need a graphics card that is compatible with real-time ray tracing. This includes NVIDIA's RTX line, from the GeForce 2060 to the GeForce 2080 Ti, and will continue with the recently announced GeForce 3070, 3080, and 3090. Some of NVIDIA's older GTX cards can also perform software ray tracing, but NVIDIA suggests staying with RTX cards. AMD will be releasing its own line of new graphics cards with real-time ray tracing capability in the near future.
