Best Upcoming Nintendo Switch Games in 2021 (And Beyond?)

1-10

What Nintendo fans can look forward to

Super Mario 3 D World Bowsers Fury

SUPER MARIO 3D WORLD + BOWSER´S FURY: We´re starting off big with Nintendo's flagship. Right at the beginning of the year, another Mario adventure awaits for Switch players to enjoy. Released back in 2013 for the Wii U, Super Mario 3D World is now being ported to the Nintendo Switch and expanded with some new content. If you didn't have a Wii U (and there are quite a few of those!) or haven't played this amazing 3D jump´n´run yet, we can highly recommend it and are especially excited about the Bowser's Fury expansion when the game comes to the Nintendo Switch on February 12.

Persona 5 Strikers

PERSONA 5 STRIKERS: Many expected – or rather hoped – Persona 5 might come to the Nintendo Switch after Joker was announced for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. But Atlus only released an updated version on the PlayStation 4 with Persona 5 Royal, leaving Nintendo fans still waiting for a Persona 5 Switch release. Instead, a Dynasty Warriors crossover of Persona 5 was released in Japan last year, which will now come to Europe and the USA on February 23: Persona 5 Strikers. Please bring the original to the Switch soon, we beg you, Atlus!

Bravely Default 2

BRAVELY DEFAULT II: If you're a fan of classic JRPG games or already loved the original on the Nintendo 3DS, then you'll also like the sequel Bravely Default II from Square Enix. It was originally supposed to come out in 2020, but was then moved to next year and will be released on February 26. You can even try out a demo in the eShop to satisfy your anticipation. Monster Hunter Rise

MONSTER HUNTER RISE: Capcom is bringing a new Monster Hunter installment to the Nintendo Switch on March 26. The "Rise" in the title alludes to the verticality of the world, as this time players will be able to climb rocks and mountains and swing upwards using the new Wirebug, a kind of grappling hook. In addition, you can expect your classic monster-slaughtering action from the series. (Image Credit: Capcom)

Monster Hunter Stories 2

MONSTER HUNTER STORIES 2: WINGS OF RUIN: It could be a good year for Monster Hunter fans on the Nintendo Switch because alongside the latest main entry they can look forward to the second Monster Hunter Stories game. The spinoff focuses more on RPG elements than the action-packed main series. A release is scheduled for the third quarter in the summer of 2021. (Image Credit: Capcom / Marvelous Inc.)

No More Heroes 3

NO MORE HEROES III: The last part of the trilogy around Travis Touchdown was originally planned for 2020 but has been postponed and will now be released in 2021. Suda51's sequel picks up the typical laser sword action the previous games are known for. And speaking of the prequels, No More Heroes I and II are already available on the Switch to pass your time until release. (Image Credit: Grasshopper Manufacture / Marvelous Inc.)

Shin Megami Tensei V

SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI V / SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI III NOCTURNE HD REMASTER: Atlus is not only known for Persona, but also for the Shin Megami Tensei series – and fans of the franchise have much to look forward to on Nintendo's console. The fifth installment is set to come exclusively to the Nintendo Switch in 2021, after having been announced way back in 2017. However, there is no firm date yet. At least the release of the third entry has been narrowed down some more as the remastered version of it is scheduled for spring. Perfect to play waiting for the latest entry of the series in the meantime. (Image Credit: Altus)

Bayonetta 3

BAYONETTA 3: It's been pretty quiet around Bayonetta. Way back at the beginning of the Switch era, Platinum Games announced that the third part is in development and reassures this again and again since then. However, we haven't seen many updates and gameplay footage yet. So, it's no surprise that Bayonetta 3 doesn't have a release date yet and isn't confirmed to release in 2021. But who knows? Maybe we'll get lucky and after years of waiting, 2021 might finally be Bayonetta´s time. (Image Credit: Platinum Games)

Metroid Prime 4

METROID PRIME 4: Speaking of years of waiting, a game that has also been in development for quite some time now but that we've heard little about and seen even less of – in fact, nothing at all – is Metroid Prime 4. Its development was completely scrapped and rebooted in 2019, with Retro Studios taking over who were already responsible for the precious entries of the Metroid Prime trilogy. Let´s be honest: We don't really expect the fourth part to be released as early as 2021. Better to wait a little longer, but then release a good game, right CD Project Red? But maybe Nintendo and Retro Studios will surprise us. Fingers crossed! (Image Credit: Nintendo / Retro Studios)

Zelda Breath of the Wild 2

THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: BREATH OF THE WILD 2: With Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Nintendo released a prequel to Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch in November telling the prequel story of the original. Will the second part of this masterpiece already come to Nintendo's console in 2021? We at least have more hope than we have for Metroid Prime 4 and would eagerly wish for it! However, it is not certain. But we can't wait to explore the magnificent world of Breath of the Wild again. How about a release towards the end of the year, Nintendo? Maybe? Please! 2020 is now over and everyone's doing end-of-year reviews. We at EarlyGame also looked back at the past gaming year. But now it's time to look ahead, because another 12 months full of great video games await us in 2021. And yes, there will certainly be games on the Nintendo Switch as well – although it doesn't look like that much at the moment. The release calendar is looking a little sparse so far, Nintendo! But there are still some fantastic games for the Nintendo Switch in 2021 that we're looking forward to – or hoping to see in the upcoming year. We present to you the best games for Nintendo's console in 2021!
