Leak: GTA 6 Set in Modern Day Vice City with Evolving Map

More GTA 6 leaks, and this time, they actually suggest something huge: GTA 6 will be set in modern day Vice City and will feature a Fortnite-style evolving map and live-service.

Is there anything more anticipated than GTA 6 and the Elder Scrolls 6? No. No there isn't. That was a metaphorical question. There's a reason that the franchises' respective number five entries have endured a decade of remakes and upgrades. While it's all hush-hush around the Elder Scrolls 6, GTA 6 rumors keep rolling in almost weekly. Now, Tom Henderson spilled some serious tea regarding the GTA 6 release date, setting and the game's map.

GTA 6: Modern Day Vice City, Evolving Map

Let's run this down in bullet points first, because they are already big enough as it is:

  • GTA 6 will release in 2025
  • GTA 6 will be set in modern day Vice City
  • GTA 6 will be live-service and feature a Fortnite-style evolving map.

Holy crap, right? Yes, that is some holy crap. That was another metaphorical question. If you need some sauce with your tea, here's the source: Tom Henderson's podcast.

Now, the late release date comes as no surprise – we already figured as much. We have GTA 5 Enhanced & Expanded, and the GTA Trilogy remaster to thank for that.

As for the modern day Vice City thing... it directly contradicts what we just wrote about: A theory suggesting GTA 6 will be set in the 1990s. Of course, it's all rumors, leaks, and speculation at this point, so it's hard to say that one is more valid than another, but still... with two rumors varying so wildly, all we know is that we know nothing.

Now, the biggest part of this leak is easily the Fortnite-style map. GTA 6 as a live-service game? Yes, please. Assassin's Creed Infinity is planning to go for something similar and games like LoL, Fortnite or Valorant seem to suggest that live-service games/maps might just be the future. With the success of GTA Online, that begs the question: Will GTA 6 be single- and multiplayer in one? Will the game feature one world for all? Will it be a hub to a second life? A hub to a virtual world of endless possibility? Is it the first step to Ready Player One coming true?

I'm probably reaching, but you can't help but get excited about Rockstar teasing a live-service game. Also, think about it from this perspective: They kept GTA 5 and GTA Online going for a decade, and probably realized that forever updating a game is much more profitable than constantly developing new games from scratch. While I'm not a fan of them constantly re-releasing GTA 5, I do see the financial benefits in merging GTA Online and GTA 6. Maybe we'll even get two separate GTA 6 releases for the single-player and multiplayer? That was not a rhetorical question – if anybody knows, tweet me up at @helloamidu.
