This Game is Basically an Open-World Transformers RPG

Transformers is one of those franchises that never translated to gaming somehow. Phantom Galaxies is looking to change that: The open-world game looks amazing.

In a way, we all grew up on Transformers. Either you're an 80s/90s kid and grew up on the toys and cartoons, or you were born later and grew up on the movies. Whatever the case, Transformers has been a part of your life, whether you wanted it to be or not.

Developers Blowfish Studios seems to be aware of that, and struck where, for some reason, nobody struck before: They made a AAA, open-world Transformers game in all but name: Their game is called Phantom Galaxies.

Don't believe me? Watch the trailer:

Let's be honest here: You expected this to be trash, and now you're thinking, "this actually looks kind of sick."

Also, while we're being honest: You know wanna know more about the game, and that's where I come in. Story-wise, this is about the Mecha Starfighters from the planet Neoterra, which, as the name kind of gives away, is the new Earth. Humans get into it with a hostile Sha'Kari faction, and they need the mech troopers from Neoterra to help them avoid extinction. Simple enough, right?

Unlike their gameplay, the statement from devs is boring as all Seven Hells and promises a "gripping narrative campaign of survival and dominance in a hostile galaxy." Yawn.

Gameplay wise, this is being touted as an RPG, and though the trailer seems like it's linear, this game will feature an open-world. Honestly, it all sounds pretty exciting, and, along with Wukong Black Myth, this is another game from a relatively unknown developer, that looks like it has the potential to be huge. Either that, or it is another game that looks pretty without any substance...

Phantom Galaxies Release Date

Phantom Galaxies is planned for the second quarter of 2022 and will release on the PC, PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X. Yup, that's power-systems only, because those graphics have no business on the PS4 and Xbox One.

Even more interesting, the finished game is supposed to feature blockchain and NFTs. Because that stuff is too complicated for me, I'll just quote you on what the devs said:

"Fully fleshed PC/console game featuring blockchain systems and NFTs to enable real player-driven governance and game asset ownership. What I truly want is true triple-A in a blockchain game experience where I own the assets and get the best of both worlds."

Sounds... interesting...
