Top 5 MMOs in 2020

1-5

Five Worlds to Explore

5. ALBION ONLINE

If you’re looking for an MMO where you can relax by doing a little crafting, and even tend to your farm then this is the MMO for you. While it’s not all Farmville, there is plenty of PVP action to be had. It’s PvP from level 1 so you need to be alert and aware of your surroundings at all times. Albion Online rewards players who are tactical and patient. An entire guild of players needs to work together to achieve the larger PVP goals on the map. After all, aren’t MMOs all about guilds and communities? (Image Credit: Sandbox Interactive)

4. ELDER SCROLLS ONLINE

Elder Scrolls Online had a rough release but now enjoys a solid player base with a very interesting take on classes. In most MMOs, you are locked into a single class and have to start a new character. But in ESO, you can multi-class and combine different elements and armor from each class.

Each expansion in ESO has a great storyline and many cool side quests. Much of each expansion's content has excellent voice acting and fun quests. You can also customize your own house, play the strange but fun three-way PVP, explore the world, and play in raids and dungeons. (Image credit: Bethesda Softworks)

3. GUILD WARS 2

Guild Wars 2 and its expansions: Heart of Thrones and Path of Fire are the explorer’s dream. With tons of POIs, achievements, map-wide events, puzzles, there is always something to look for as a solo player.

The game also has a robust no-healer PVP system. While there some classes can heal, they are tuned way down in PVP to make the game more action-focused. GW2 also has raids to complete and massive world bosses to kill that reward cosmetic items. That’s right, GW2 has a max item level that never changes – once you get the max upgrade, the rest is cosmetic or quality-of-life even when new expansions were released.

There are a few more features to the game like World Versus World along with an endless dungeon crawl via the Fractals of the Mist. It’s a big game and definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a new MMO and you like open worlds like in Skyrim. (Image credit: Arenanet)

Final fantasy 14s 1

2. FINAL FANTASY XIV

FFXIV is set in the Final Fantasy universe and is your go-to anime MMO with all manner of well dressed, cute, and fantastic characters to adventure with. Final Fantasy 14 does away with classes – it lets you change classes whenever you want and even borrow abilities from different classes.

Each in-game class has a specific storyline which helps with immersion in the world and storyline. The combat in FF14 is turn-based but still finds ways to make it action-packed. It is tab-targeting gameplay and very similar to WoW’s gameplay. You can freely move your character and use abilities one at a time. (Image credit: Squarenix)

1. WORLD OF WARCRAFT

Everyone knows WoW and it probably needs no introduction as chances are, they have visited the world of Azeroth at some point in their life. Currently, WoW is getting ready for a new expansion and one of the advantages (or disadvantages, depending on your point of view) is that the game resets.

New items and zones are released, leaving the rest of the world for the pre-50 leveling experience. WoW has numerous game modes to explore: dungeons, raiding, PVP, pet battles, collecting mounts or transmogs, festivals, questing and crafting. If you want a real nostalgic treat, WoW has also released Classic servers holding a version similar to the original game that has more or less kept everything the same as back in 2004.
