Five Beloved Video Game Series Murdered by EA

1-5

Are there no bounds to your evil?

Gaming - March 6th 2021, 12:09 GMT+1
Command conquer

Command & Conquer: The first obituary is for Command & Conquer. EA were there for some of the better C&C releases: Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2 and Generals were all released under the EA cap. The streak was over eventually and with time, the franchise was worn into the ground. We've not seen a proper Command & Conquer release since 2012's titanic flop Tiberium Alliances and we're not likely to get one soon either. (Credit: EA)

Medal of honor

Medal of Honor: Let's do a quick Q&A: when was the last Medal of Honor installment released? If you answered three months ago, congratulations, you're right! Above & Beyond went by so unnoticed that a lot of people's last memory of the series is the equally forgettable Warfighter, from 2012. When you know Medal of Honor is the sole reason for Call of Duty's existence, you can't help but feel depressed about the state of this once great franchise. (Credit: EA)

Mass effect

Mass Effect: Being a narrative-driven game series is rule no. 1 in the "How to be Murdered by EA" textbook. A franchise once hailed for its interesting story, character building and open options evolved into...something. We're not really sure what Andromeda was supposed to be, but we do know that it set back the Mass Effect series by at least half a decade. At least there's still hope that this one may recover some day. (Credit: EA)

Dead space

Dead Space: Something that can't be said for the Dead Space series. The first game is an immense horror experience that rivals old legends of the genre like Silent Hill and Resident Evil. Dead Space's somewhat surprising success caught EA off-guard, and they quickly messed it all up by turning an atmospheric survival horror into what was effectively just Call of Duty in space. Dead Space is truly dead space these days because of it. (Credit: EA)

Star wars

Star Wars: We're hard-pressed to think of a waste bigger than EA's exclusive rights to Star Wars over the past decade. Star Wars is so iconic that actually killing the game series is a job even EA is incapable of doing, but the publisher's complete ineptitude over the geek holy grail deserves its own spot on here. We'll say something positive for EA to end all of this: we don't expect Ubisoft to do any better. (Credit: EA)

1-5

EA are known for a lot of things, and not all of them are good. Alright, most of them aren't good, but most notorious of all is their hunger for shutting down video game series and developing studios. That's shutting down developing studios, not developing developing studios. We will cover the former here, and the latter in a separate gallery. Let's press F to pay respects to the video game series that have been murdered by EA.
