The Top 20 Sitcoms Ranked By A Zoomer

1-21

Benedikt Ostertag Benedikt Ostertag
Entertainment - July 19th 2024, 15:00 GMT+2
Top 10 sitcoms

Sitcoms can be an anchor in life. They are there for you when you're happy, when you're bored or when you're sad. Of course, everyone has enjoyed one or the other situational comedy, but I noticed, that the gaps in age of sitcom enjoyers, lead to many discussions about which being the best.

So today I, a member of Gen Z, will look upon your old and new favorites, without nostalgia clouding my judgement.

2 broke girls

20. 2 Broke Girls

I have no way of sugarcoating it – I don't like this show. The characters range from unlikable to outright annoying. When I say that I don't find this show funny, I mean that I sit there silently.

This one had to be the bottom one.

Two and a half men

19. Two and a Half Men

I have basically the same feelings for this show as for 2 Broke Girls, the only difference being that I like some of the Jake and Bertha scenes. Otherwise, it's not my cup of tea.

Blue mountain state

18. Blue Mountain State

Ahh, frat boys... I will say, that I think Thad is quite funny. For me, the humor sometimes lands, but it was hard getting through the first few episodes. If you enjoy over the top comedy, maybe this is something for you.

Superstore

17. Superstore

If you enjoy the Office, then this could be the show for you. It's got a likable cast and good humor, which is definitely the case because of one of the writers comes from the Office. The supermarket setting allows for some fun observations of day-to-day life in America. A decently good show.

The big bang theory

16. The Big Bang Theory

Everyone knows this one. It's got good science related humor and likable dorky characters. Sheldon does steal the show, which is probably why there is a whole spin-off dedicated to him. Overall pretty good, but not my favorite.

That 70s show

15. That 70's Show

The first time I watched this show, I asked myself: What in god's name are all these A-list celebrities doing here?! Most of the cast had their big break with this show. Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Wilmer Valderrama and Topher Grace are all actors who were able to launch successful careers from this show. The humor lands, although I didn't get most of the references.

Its always sunny

14. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

In contrast to the show's title, It's always sunny in Philadelphia is a very dark comedy. The humor that borders on being painful to watch sometimes really got me. It's hilarious to watch Charlie and Mac trying to pull their schemes that almost never work out the way they want to. All in all a great sitcom, I just like the other ones more.

King of queens

13. King of Queens

King of Queens is definitely a classic. I like Doug a lot, which is why I ranked it this high. But in truth, it's just good, not great, but good.

The fresh prince of bel air

12. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Now we're getting to the really good stuff. Will Smith was born for this role, he is funny, charming and heartfelt when he needs to be. A great sitcom that doesn't rely on overacting as other ones from this period.

Community

11. Community

For some people, Community is the best sitcom there is. Don't get me wrong, I like it a lot, I just didn't always connect with its humor. The cast is great, especially Donald Glover who really gets to flex his comedic muscles here. If you like the format, you should give Community a try.

Parks and recreation og

10. Parks and Recreation

Parks and Recreation has, like Superstore, huge similarities to The Office, but with a much stronger cast than Superstore. Ron Swanson is one of my favorite sitcom characters of all time, I genuinely can't keep a straight face when I see this guy. Chris Pratt and Aubrey Plaza deserve high praise as well. Their chemistry is off the charts in this show!

© Universal Television

Friends

9. Friends

Now this might upset some of you, but I don't think Friends, is as good as people make it out to be. Don't get me wrong, it is a good sitcom, I just didn't like some of the later character developments, or lack thereof. Joey was characterized as a bit dense in the beginning, but not outright stupid how it is in later seasons. Also, I don't like Ross and Rachel.

Scrubs

8. Scrubs

The sitcom with the most infectious intro song I have ever heard. Scrubs is hilarious. Zach Braff and Donald Saison are a comedic duo made in heaven, and their quick banter makes the show feel so alive. I also love the editing in some of the dream sequences we see. Dr. Cox and Dr. Kelso are also the funniest side characters ever.

Malcolm in the middle

7. Malcolm in the Middle

Malcolm in the Middle is the perfect comedic interpretation of what it was like to grow up in the 90s. The family's dynamic is very entertaining to watch. Bryan Cranston does shine a lot, but not as much, that he would take the spotlight from anyone.

New girl

6. New Girl

New Girl feels special somehow. The humor gets so weird but relatable, and I find myself chuckling at scenes just by remembering them. The whole main cast is adorable, and the humor just resonates with me. It feels very modern for a sitcom, and it's super cosy.

How i met your mother

5. How I Met Your Mother

This is definitely the one sitcom that I have rewatched the most. The characters and the comedy have always clicked with me. The running gags work great, but what makes this show really shine are the heartfelt moments. I cried so many times to this show. I don't want to spoil anything, so I won't go into detail. Watch this show!

Brooklyn 99

4. Brooklyn Nine-Nine

A modern gem in my opinion, Brooklyn Nine-Nine found a way to unite Millenials and Zoomers with its quick and absurd humor. Coupled with the small action scenes and cutaway gags, this show's style really did it for me. Special shoutouts go to Andre Braugher, who really gave it his all in every scene he is in. Rest in Peace.

© Universal Television

Seinfeld

3. Seinfeld

Well, it had to be in here. Seinfeld is maybe the most famous sitcom of all time, amassing insane viewer numbers during its run. I think it aged very well, and it is to this day one of the best sitcoms of all time, which is saying something because its first episode aired in 1989.

© Castle Rock Entertainment

Modern family

2. Modern Family

Modern Family is awesome. Hilarious comedy and lovable characters. There really is no character I dislike in this show. It is incredible how they managed to balance adult themes with such hilarity. Truly a deserved number 2.

© 20th Century Fox Television

The office

1. The Office

For me, the Office has everything you can ask for in a sitcom. Great characters, witty humor and heartfelt moments that jerk the tears straight out of your eyes. Every character gets to have great jokes, you can seriously just go on YouTube and type in any character from the Office and you will find a compilation of them there. Steve Carell was one of the rarest discoveries you could make, since no one knew how funny he was when he was cast. I just love this show, man. Easy first place!
