Fortnite: How To Land Before All Your Opponents | Guide

We've all been there, haven't we? You want to land peacefully in Fortnite, but before you even get to your chest, your opponent already has a weapon. Since he probably didn't spawn with the weapon, he must have had a better drop and landed long before you. That's why we're showing you the best way to land in Fortnite.

Fortnite is a fast-paced game where every second – or even millisecond – can be crucial. Many players overlook how important a good landing can be. Landing early allows you to loot sooner and engage opponents before they are fully equipped. Thus, a good landing is a fundamental strategy!

Fortnite: Why A Good Landing Is Important

As mentioned, landing quickly allows you to gather weapons and shields sooner. If you land well and immediately seek confrontation, you have a better chance of defeating technically superior players.

Additionally, a good landing lets you "reserve" your landing spot. If you are consistently better positioned than your opponents during the glide phase, fewer players will dare to land at your location.

Before You Start:

Choosing The Location And Landing Spot

Everyone probably already has their favorite spots where they land the most each season. Some of you might even instinctively land in the same place every time. Therefore, you will be most familiar with these spots, knowing where to find chests or ground loot.

Surroundings Of Your Landing Spot

Once you’ve chosen and are familiar with your landing spot, consider its surroundings. Depending on whether your spot is higher or lower in a building, on a tall mountain, or in a valley, you need to adjust your flight and landing approach accordingly.

Timing Of The Jump

It’s hard to set a general rule here, but at least a few helpful tips:

  • If your landing target is far from the bus route, you can jump out later.
  • If the spot is relatively close, an earlier jump will be beneficial.
  • Depending on the distance from the bus route, you usually need to jump either earlier or later.

The Right Trajectory

After you jump from the bus, you are initially weightless and glide through the air without a glider, which is the most crucial part. Even though many are already familiar with it, here’s a well-intentioned piece of advice:

  • The farther your target is, the higher you should look up.
  • If you look too high, you’ll slow yourself down.
  • For extremely long distances, it might be worth opening your glider a bit earlier yourself.

Glider Deployment

As you probably know, your glider opens automatically at a certain altitude. This is always dependent on how close you are to the ground directly below you. If you fly over a large hill, your glider might open much earlier than intended. However, you can also take advantage of this.

Take Brawlers' Battleground from Chapter 5 Season 2 as an example. Since the location is near a cliff, your glider will open much later if you fly over it. You can use this to your advantage if you want to land directly in the first buildings.

Additionally, you don’t always have to fly straight. Due to the system of the height at which your glider opens, you sometimes need to fly around corners to achieve the perfect drop. Here’s an example from Copilot:

In this example, you first fly towards the valley with the track as it is the lowest point in the area. From there, you then turn towards Fencing Fields. Despite the longer path, you will land lower and therefore earlier than your opponents!

In summary, landing quickly in Fortnite is much more than just a fast start to the game. It is a fundamental strategy to secure an early advantage, position yourself optimally, avoid fights, or use resources efficiently. The ability to land quickly and effectively can make the difference between an early elimination and a path to victory.
