Battlefield fans will have to wait a little longer than CoD fans for a new game. But for those who can't wait, we've gathered all the information about the next Battlefield game, which we're tentatively calling "Battlefield 6".

Battlefield 2042 was a disaster. Hell, even the recent Battlefield Mobile project was shut down. Long story short, the franchise is in shambles and EA doesn't know what to do with it. But that won't stop them from trying: They have confirmed that a new Battlefield game is in development.
Here is everything we know so far about the next Battlefield, including our release date expectation, the gameplay, and even the rumored BR.
Battlefield 6 release date prediction
Battlefield 6 does not have an official release date, but we expect it to release in 2026. The game has been in development since 2021, and on average we've been getting new Battlefield games about once every five years since the franchise began. We also know that they've been hiring for this game for quite a while now. At the very latest, we think the next Battlefield game will be released in 2027, but we don't expect EA to allow Massive any more time than that.
Gameplay expected to deliver "back-to-basics" approach
After the flop of Battlefield 2042, Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios, said that EA wants to aim for an experience like Battlefield 3 and 4. With that in mind, Zampella also revealed that there will be a number of legacy features returning with this game.
One of the changes will be the return of 64 player maps. The main reason for this is player feedback. The 128 player maps of Battlefield 2042 were deeply unpopular with players, which led to the decision to support 64 player maps in the current Battlefield, and that's what they're sticking with in the next game.
Another take on the Back-to-basics approach will be the return to four different classes, instead of having a specialist. Zampella said:
Not everybody liked it, but you got to try things. It didn't work. It didn't fit. Specialist will not be coming back. So classes are kind of at the core of Battlefield, and we're going back to that.
And alongside the return of classes, a job-ad from back in 2023 revealed that they were targeting devs with experience in environmental destruction, so it's safe to assume we can expect a lot of that back as well.
So, as far as gameplay is concerned, we can assume this game will go back to 64-player games, focused on destruction, set in the "modern era" of warfare represented in BF3 and BF4.
Battlefield Royale?
Yes, after years of hearing Battlefield BR rumors, and then not getting one in 2042, it seems like this is one of the few things that does look certain for Battlefield 6.
Right now, four studios are working on the new Battlefield: DICE, Motive, Ripple Effect, and Criterion. One of them (Ripple Effect) is working on Battlefield's take on a new free-to-play Battle Royale, according to Gaming Insider.
Is this what the Battlefield community even want? We'll see, but it certainly can't be worse than Hazard Zone.
Are you excited about the next Battlefield game? Or did you give up hope after 2042?
