Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3 – What Are The Chances?

With Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 leaving us on the brink of history – with unfinished business, simmering rivalries, and a world still in turmoil – the question isn’t just if we’ll get a third game, but how Warhorse Studios will continue the journey.

Warning: Spoilers for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 ahead!

The Kingdom Come series has captivated players with its deep historical storytelling, rich world-building, and compelling characters. As we come to the end of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, many fans are eagerly speculating about the potential for a third installment. With unresolved plot points, historical intrigue, and a number of promising directions to take, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3 may or may not be just around the corner. Here are some reasons why it could happen, and a few ways it could go.

Reasons For A Third Game

Well, I could probably think of a thousand reasons for a new game, but here are a few of the strongest indicators.

1. Eric's Still Out for Blood

The end of Kingdom Come 2 leaves us with a simmering conflict: Eric still wants Henry dead. Even with the fall of Sigismund and the chaos of the battle-scarred kingdom, Eric’s vendetta is far from finished. This unresolved grudge could easily fuel the opening of a third game, keeping the stakes high for Henry.

2. Hans' Wedding

Hans Capon is bound to marry Jitka Kunstadt, but if you chose to romance him in Kingdom Come 2, you might feel the urge to intervene. A potential Kingdom Come 3 could explore this emotional conflict – what if Henry could delay or even prevent the wedding? This could give Henry and Hans a few more years together, or at least explore the consequences of such a bold move. Would it be worth risking their friendship, or would it strengthen their bond in ways we haven't seen yet? Keep in mind, though: Hans' and Jitka's wedding is, as almost everything in Kingdom Come, historically accurate. Warhorse doesn't really have a history of altering the course of the story just for the sake of its characters, so chances of actually preventing the wedding are pretty slim.

3. Žižka's Unfinished Business

In the end of Kingdom Come 2, Žižka expresses a desire to work with Henry. After the tumultuous events of the second game, Henry’s journey could continue with the legendary general, either as a new ally or as a figure Henry must help rise to prominence. Žižka’s role could be pivotal during the Hussite Wars, which we will come back to later.

4. Sigismund’s Rage

Sigismund, the chaotic force that has wreaked havoc throughout the kingdom, is far from being at peace. His anger and thirst for power remain unresolved, making him a lingering threat that could easily come back in a third game. Henry might have to face Sigismund one more time, or even deal with his aftermath.

5. Henry's Own Words

Let’s not forget Henry himself. At the end of Kingdom Come 2, he says there is still much to do. This could be the perfect setup for a third installment, with Henry at the forefront, continuing to shape the kingdom's future while addressing the unresolved issues of his past.

Historical Indicators: What Could We Expect?

The historical events surrounding this period are rich with possibilities, and there are several ways a third game could delve into these fascinating stories.

1. Wenceslaus’ Escape and John II Liechtenstein’s Role

The real-life John II Liechtenstein played a key role in helping King Wenceslaus escape imprisonment in Vienna in 1403. His journey towards Prague to reclaim his throne could be the backdrop for a third game. After all, this is precisely what we were working towards in Kingdom Come 2 – restoring Wenceslaus to power.

2. The Hussite Wars (1419-1439)

Kingdom Come 3 could shift gears and take place during the Hussite Wars, with Henry as an older character, Žižka as a key ally, or even with a new generation, such as Henry’s or Hans’ sons. This period was rife with conflict, making it a natural fit for the game’s themes of loyalty, war, and survival. Plus, it would be an opportunity to explore the legendary general Jan Žižka in more depth, possibly even making him a playable character.

Possible Locations For A New Map

The world of Kingdom Come: Deliverance is vast and rich in history, and there are two locations that would be a natural fit for a new game: Kolín and Poděbrady. At the end of Kingdom Come 2, we know that Samuel and the Jews went to Kolín, while historically the Kunstadt family was given the estates of Poděbrady. The proximity of these areas to Kuttenberg opens up a great avenue for exploration.

Perhaps we could visit these places and interact with characters like Rosa and her father, further deepening Henry's relationships and storylines. With Hans' marriage and political intrigue, this area could provide a wealth of new quests and interactions. This would also fit with Wenceslas' journey from Kuttenberg to Prague in 1403 – as Kolín and Poděbrady are close to Kuttenberg, it would make sense for Kingdom Come 3 to expand the map to include these areas.

The Possible Approaches

If the developers want to try something different, there are some bold alternatives to consider.

1. Direct Continuation with Henry

One obvious route for Kingdom Come 3 is to continue Henry’s story right after the events of Kingdom Come 2. The king is freed, Eric is still hunting us, and Sigismund is angrier than ever. We could see Samuel and Rosa again, while dealing with the fallout from Hans’ wedding.

2. Hussite Wars and the Next Generation

Perhaps the third game could jump forward in time to the Hussite Wars. Here, players could take on the role of an older Henry, fight alongside Žižka, or play as Henry’s or Hans’ sons. This would allow the game to evolve while retaining the core themes of loyalty, warfare, and survival.

3. A Prequel

Alternatively, the developers could take us back in time with a prequel. Imagine playing as Martin, Radzig, or Godwin during key moments in the game’s history. We could explore the origins of key characters and events, much like Red Dead Redemption 2 did for the Red Dead Redemption series. This would give us a deeper understanding of the lore and history behind the game’s world.

4. No New Game

Finally, there’s always the possibility that we won’t see a third Kingdom Come game at all. While this might disappoint some fans, the developers have a tendency to create thoughtful, meticulous games, and they might decide to explore other projects. That said, there’s just too much potential here to ignore, so I’m not holding my breath for this outcome.

Let’s hope that whatever path the developers choose, they stay true to the historical depth and character-driven storytelling that has made Kingdom Come a fan favorite.
