Assassins Creed Rogue 2014 — 14. Assassin's Creed: Rogue (2014)

*Rogue* is essentially an oversized *Black Flag* expansion dressed up as a morally complex reversal. Shay Cormac’s defection should expose uncomfortable truths about the Brotherhood, but the story takes the lazy route of making the Assassins reckless enough to justify almost anything he does. Naval combat remains enjoyable because Ubisoft had already perfected it elsewhere, while most missions, locations, and activities feel aggressively familiar. The result is short, derivative, and far less intelligent than its premise believes it is, by far the most disposable Assassin’s Creed game. | © Ubisoft

Cropped Assassins Creed Syndicate — 13. Assassin's Creed: Syndicate (2015)

Victorian London deserved intrigue, danger, and industrial grime; *Syndicate* gives it quips, territory chores, and enemies who feel like caricatures. The rope launcher makes traversal faster but also removes much of the need for parkour, while Jacob’s cartoonish gang-leader routine clashes badly with the exploitation surrounding him. Evie is the more convincing Assassin, yet the campaign repeatedly pushes her aside. London itself is impressive, but attractive architecture cannot rescue a safe, tonally confused installment that feels designed to offend absolutely nobody and excite roughly the same number. | © Ubisoft

*Mirage* was advertised as a return to the series’ roots, but restoring old mechanics is not the same as understanding why they worked. Baghdad is compact and well suited to stealth, while investigation missions occasionally recapture the pleasure of studying a target before striking. Unfortunately, the parkour remains stiff, combat is deliberately limited rather than meaningfully challenging, and Assassin Focus can erase entire groups with a glorified teleportation sequence. Basim’s story never develops enough emotional weight, leaving *Mirage* as a competent course correction that resembles classic Assassin’s Creed more than it actually feels like it. | © Ubisoft

Cropped Assassins Creed Shadows — 11. Assassin's Creed Shadows (2025)

After years of requests for feudal Japan, *Shadows* delivers a beautiful setting wrapped around another exhausting Ubisoft checklist. Naoe’s light-based stealth is easily the better half, rewarding patience and making darkness genuinely useful, while Yasuke’s slower combat often feels imported from a different action game. Switching between them sounds more flexible than it proves, since their incompatible strengths frequently make one protagonist the obvious choice. Repetitive targets, disposable loot, and a scattered story gradually drain the excitement from exploration. Japan looks spectacular; the game built inside it is far less memorable. | © Ubisoft

Cropped Assassins Creed Odyssey The Fate of Atlantis 2019 hades — 10. Assassin's Creed: Odyssey (2018)

*Odyssey* wants to be a historical RPG, a mythological epic, a naval adventure, and an Assassin’s Creed prequel despite taking place before the Assassins exist. Kassandra carries much of that identity crisis through sheer charisma, but even she cannot prevent the campaign from drowning in repetitive forts, level grinding, interchangeable equipment, and enemies with absurd health bars. Dialogue choices provide freedom without consistently producing meaningful consequences, while the enormous map often confuses distance with depth. It can be entertaining for dozens of hours, although it would probably be stronger with several dozen fewer. | © Ubisoft

The reassessment of *Unity* occasionally goes too far: patches fixed the worst technical disasters, but they did not transform it into a secret masterpiece. Arno still sticks to scenery, guards still behave unpredictably, and combat remains clumsy enough to make every failed escape feel partly accidental. Paris is astonishingly dense, however, and the black-box assassinations offer more freedom than most later entries. Those strengths make the wasted potential even more frustrating. Ubisoft created the ideal city for an Assassin’s Creed game, then filled it with an underwritten romance and a strangely unimportant French Revolution. | © Ubisoft

AC Valhalla — 8. Assassin's Creed: Valhalla (2020)

*Valhalla* contains a solid Viking adventure buried beneath enough mandatory content to qualify as an archaeological site. Building Ravensthorpe gives Eivor’s journey a tangible purpose, but progress soon becomes trapped behind a parade of regional alliances that repeat the same political structure with different accents. Raids lose their novelty quickly, stealth detection is unreliable, and simple upgrades are hidden behind an epidemic of barred doors. Several story arcs are genuinely engaging; several others feel like side quests promoted to compulsory status. The game is not empty—it is simply incapable of recognizing when it has said enough. | © Ubisoft

The emotional conclusion of Ezio and Altaïr’s stories does most of the heavy lifting in *Revelations*. Constantinople is attractive without matching the variety of Renaissance Italy, bomb crafting produces dozens of solutions to problems that rarely require one, and den defense remains among the series’ most unwanted experiments. Even the hookblade feels more like a useful adjustment than a major evolution. Fortunately, Ezio’s exhaustion gives the familiar mechanics a new context, and the final sequence provides the closure this trilogy needed. It is a moving farewell attached to a sequel that otherwise struggles to justify itself. | © Ubisoft

*Assassin’s Creed III* swings for something grander and regularly hits the furniture. Connor is more thoughtful than his humorless reputation suggests, but the painfully long introduction delays his story, while restrictive optional objectives punish anyone who refuses to follow Ubisoft’s exact choreography. The American Revolution becomes a conveyor belt of famous events, occasionally reducing Connor to a heavily armed spectator at somebody else’s history lesson. Tree-running, naval combat, and the Homestead were worthwhile additions, yet the strongest ideas remain trapped inside awkward pacing and inconsistent mission design. *Brotherhood* wisely keeps the foundation of *Assassin’s Creed II*, although it also reveals how easily that foundation could become a checklist. Burning Borgia towers, purchasing landmarks, and reclaiming Rome provide constant satisfaction, even when the activities begin repeating themselves. Assassin recruits are an excellent concept but eventually become an instant-win button, while Cesare Borgia lacks the complexity of the series’ better antagonists. Still, the campaign is focused, traversal remains enjoyable, and Ezio finally operates like the experienced Mentor he was becoming. This is iterative sequel design executed with confidence, not a major reinvention. | © Ubisoft

*Origins* rescued a formula that Ubisoft had thoroughly exhausted, although its replacement brought problems of its own. Level requirements interrupt Bayek’s revenge story, loot quickly becomes numerical clutter, and the final stretch rushes Aya through developments important enough to deserve another campaign. Bayek himself prevents those weaknesses from taking over: his grief, humor, and compassion give the origin of the Brotherhood an appropriately human center. Ancient Egypt also rewards exploration without needing a marker every thirty seconds. The RPG transition was messy, but this is the rare franchise overhaul with a clear reason to exist. | © Ubisoft

The original *Assassin’s Creed* is repetitive enough to make its nine assassinations feel like shifts at a particularly dangerous job. Players eavesdrop, pickpocket, interrogate, climb a viewpoint, and repeat until the next target becomes available, with very little variation to disguise the structure. Yet no sequel replicated its oppressive atmosphere or treated assassination with the same ritualistic seriousness. Altaïr gathers information, plans an approach, listens to his victim, and escapes a city suddenly determined to kill him. It is dated, rigid, and frequently tedious—but it also has a stronger identity than most of its smoother successors. | © Ubisoft

Assassins creed 4 black flag — 2. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (2013)

*Black Flag* is a tremendous pirate game periodically interrupted by Assassin’s Creed missions. Sailing the Caribbean, upgrading the Jackdaw, attacking forts, and listening to sea shanties remain wonderfully absorbing, while Edward Kenway develops from a selfish opportunist into one of the franchise’s most believable protagonists. On land, however, the aging controls and relentless tailing missions repeatedly slow the adventure to a crawl. *Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced* modernizes several of those weaker systems, but the original still deserves credit for making naval exploration the main attraction rather than another disposable side activity. | © Ubisoft

*Assassin’s Creed II* is not flawless: combat becomes trivial, rooftop movement occasionally sends Ezio toward the wrong ledge, and collecting one hundred feathers sounds like punishment devised by a Renaissance accountant. Almost everything surrounding those flaws works. Ezio’s decades-spanning journey gives the series its strongest character arc, each Italian city has a distinct rhythm, and optional tombs test the parkour far better than ordinary missions. Leonardo, Monteriggioni, and the Auditore family make the world feel personal rather than merely historical. Later games became larger and prettier; none remained this consistently engaging. | © Ubisoft
