Before every rumor could be disproved with a quick Google search, video game secrets spread through playground whispers, suspicious screenshots and that one friend whose uncle supposedly worked at Nintendo. Hidden characters, haunted cartridges and impossible unlock codes felt entirely plausible when nobody had the evidence to say otherwise. Some of these gaming urban legends were clever hoaxes; others grew from glitches, mistranslations or pure wishful thinking. Either way, we desperately wanted them to be true—and a few still refuse to die.
