1. D) Wii Sports
Wii Sports is the best-selling Nintendo exclusive ever, with 82.96 million copies sold worldwide. Bundled with the Wii in many regions, it became a cultural phenomenon and outsold even Super Mario Bros. by more than double.
2. C) Mega Man 6
Mega Man 6 was published by Nintendo in North America after Capcom initially planned to skip a U.S. release. Because it arrived very late in the NES lifecycle, Nintendo took over publishing as part of the console’s final push, alongside titles like Kirby’s Adventure and Wario’s Woods.
3. B) Totaka’s Song
Totaka’s Song is a short, recurring melody secretly hidden in dozens of Nintendo games, often in menus or idle screens. It’s named after composer Kazumi Totaka, who has quietly inserted the tune into titles ranging from Mario and Zelda to Animal Crossing and Luigi’s Mansion.
4. D) Space Station Silicon Valley
Space Station Silicon Valley contains a bug that prevents 100% completion when played with the N64 Expansion Pak installed. The added RAM causes a specific collectible to fail to spawn correctly, meaning the game is ironically less complete with the hardware upgrade Nintendo promoted for other titles.
5. A) The Wand of Gamelon
The Wand of Gamelon was the first Zelda title to make Princess Zelda the main playable character. Released on the Philips CD-i rather than a Nintendo console, it predates later playable Zelda appearances and remains infamous for its cutscenes and unconventional place in the series’ history.
6. B) Ganon
In The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Ganon is the only enemy that actually takes damage from Deku Nuts. While the item is typically used to stun foes, throwing one at Ganon during the final battle causes him to recoil and lose health, making it a strange but intentional exception to the rule.
7. B) Luigi
Luigi is Mario’s younger twin brother and has appeared alongside him since Mario Bros. (1983). While Mario became the face of Nintendo, Luigi developed his own identity through games like Luigi’s Mansion and New Super Mario Bros.
8. A) Seattle Mariners
In 1992, Nintendo purchased a majority stake in the Seattle Mariners, investing roughly $100 million to prevent the franchise from relocating out of Seattle. Nintendo retained ownership for more than two decades, later selling most of its stake in 2016 for $661 million while keeping a minority share.
9. D) 19 years
Metroid Dread spent nearly two decades in development hell, first discussed internally by Nintendo in the early 2000s before being shelved multiple times. The project was finally revived and completed by MercurySteam, releasing in 2021 as the long-awaited continuation of the 2D Metroid storyline.
10. A) Lucas, Larry, Morton, Lemmy, and Wendy
The voice behind Bubsy 3D is Lani Minella, a prolific voice actress who later appeared across Nintendo games. In Super Smash Bros., she voiced Lucas, several Koopalings, Pit in Brawl, and Lyn’s Assist Trophy.
