Ranking All Hunger Games Movies From Worst To Best

1-5

Ignacio Weil Ignacio Weil
TV Shows & Movies - August 4th 2024, 19:00 GMT+2
The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 1

5. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1

If there's one thing that can't be missing in any movie of this franchise, it's one of the famous events for which the series is known. Unfortunately, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 not only lacks that, but it also has a terribly slow and boring pacing. While it's exciting to see the beginning of the revolution, knowing that it's split into two parts leaves us empty-handed in terms of resolution. The reality is, if I had to choose a movie from the series to rewatch, this would be the last one I would choose. | © Lionsgate

The Hunger Games The Ballad of Songbirds Snakes

4. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes

It's hard to defend this movie, and I think it has all kinds of flaws, with the biggest one being its long duration beyond the main event of the games, so we could easily cut an hour from the film. It's a classic problem with sequels, but beyond that, we have great actors like Peter Dinklage and Viola Davis, and if you're curious about the universe, it's a good way to learn more about the creation of the first games and the origins of Snow. A movie made for fans of the universe, but not for fans of the original books. | © Lionsgate

The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2

3. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2

Despite everything I've said before, and even though The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 also doesn't feature a Hunger Games event, it does have many of its traps protecting the Capitol, giving us the feeling of being back in the games. But the real reason is the incredible way it closes the arc of the trilogy, with a mastery unexpectedly fitting for a young adult story, and it is the Greek tragedy that no one escapes their fate. In the end, the games are about power, and it doesn't matter who's on top or who's on the bottom, and those who were destined to die from the beginning of the story, well, can't entirely escape. It's a bittersweet ending, more bitter than sweet, and it deserves applause for the cynicism behind the message. | © Lionsgate

The Hunger Games

2. The Hunger Games

Ok, it's possible that some of you will want me to participate in the games for putting the original 2012 The Hunger Games in second place, but the reality is that, while it's a story that captivated us and introduced us to the concept for the first time, it was also lacking in budget, and it shows in the creation of some sets (in particular, the cornucopia looks terrible). Not only that, but some actors were still starting out in their craft, and their characters needed a bit more polish. However, it's undeniable that it's a strong contender for first place, as a concise and solid story that kept us on the edge of our seats the whole time. | © Lionsgate

The Hunger Games Catching Fire

1. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

I think The Hunger Games: Catching Fire does everything the franchise is about decently, and it's a good mix of everything we look for. Not only do they manage to balance the two plots of "surviving the games" and "starting a revolution," but it also shows us the most interesting event of all. How were they going to surpass the danger and drama of the first movie? By placing previous game-winning tributes, creating a battle royale of pure career killers ready to take down our beloved protagonists. On top of that, it’s the most interesting arena to date, functioning like a giant clock with all kinds of dangers at any hour. The reality is that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is the ultimate experience of everything we want from this movie franchise, catering to all tastes. | © Lionsgate

1-5

Whether you were one of those who began their journey in literature thanks to Suzanne Collins' trilogy, or because the concept of a dystopian society that holds Battle Royales every year seems interesting to you, The Hunger Games captivated an entire generation, both with its novels and its movies. But just as this event repeats itself constantly in each iteration, we have to see which one was the most entertaining, exciting, and dramatic. Does that mean we are as bad as the people of the Capitol?
